The Ohio State Buckeyes will find out it’s easier to get to the top of the mountain than to stay there when they face the North Carolina Tar Heels on tonight.

The Buckeyes, who are ranked No.1 in the nation by USA Today, will get its first real test of the season when it meets UNC at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. OSU has gone 6-0 versus some mid-major schools, winning straight up and against the spread in all six by an average of 26 points per game.

"One huge advantage that UNC has is that it’s already faced two tough opponents in Tennessee and Gonzaga,” says professional handicapper Scott Rickenbach. “Ohio State really hasn`t been tested yet and that could loom large in this game."

Another challenge for OSU will be dealing with the Tar Heels` physical frontcourt. North Carolina forwards Tyler Hansbrough and Brandon Wright are averaging a combined 37.6 points and 16.2 rebounds per game this season and almost single-handedly defeated the Tennessee Volunteers last Friday.

Ohio State Game Guide :: Get ready for tomorrow's showdown with the top-ranked Buckeyes.
By Lauren Brownlow

Two of the most heralded recruiting classes in the country will face off in what will be the biggest game for each team so far this season. The Carolina freshmen (and their recruiting rankings) include Ty Lawson (No. 1 point guard), Wayne Ellington (No. 1 shooting guard), Brandan Wright (No. 1 power forward), Deon Thompson (No. 5 center) and Alex Stepheson (No. 11 center). The Ohio State freshmen include Greg Oden (No. 1 center), who will not play because of a broken wrist that will sideline him until January, Mike Conley Jr. (No. 3 point guard), Daequan Cook (No. 2 shooting guard), and David Lightly (No. 8 strong forward).

After some top-five teams lost last week (including Carolina), Ohio State (6-0) climbed to No. 1 in the USA Today poll and No. 3 in the AP Poll. Carolina is coming off their fifth loss in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge last season in a 2005 national championship game rematch with Illinois, losing 68-64 in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels have won just twice in this event, beating Indiana in the 2005 season and Illinois in the 2004 season. Ohio State earned its first victory in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge last season, beating Virginia Tech 69-59.

This is going to be a great game. I was looking forward to the Greg Oden / Tyler Hansbrough matchup, but I don't think that is going to happen. It will be close. I can't wait to watch it.

Can't wait for the game. I think that the winner will be moved up to #1.

Re: Tar Heels vs. Buckeyes

The game is about over. NC will move up to the number one spot in the polls now.

Re: Tar Heels vs. Buckeyes

UNC - 98
OSU - 89

I agree with the FATHA, UNC could possibly see the #1 spot. But we still have Kentucky this weekend.

So, no time to jump the gun yet.

But, GO HEELS!!!!!
