Butch Davis

Hey all. So yesterday was a great day for UNC Athletics as Butch Davis was officially announced as the next football coach for the Univeristy of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

I took some time out my work day (don't tell my boss) and watched the live video stream of the PC. It's great to see that UNC really cares about the football program.

"He said we're not a 3-9 team...a 3-9 team would have given up at the end of the season, but that we kept fighting. He said right now we have a 2 game win streak, now let's go make it 14. And you could see the look in everybody's eyes, like they wanted to go play right when he said that." This is a comment from Jr. Defensive Back Trimane Goddard. As you can see, it looks as though the players are excited.

Here is a link to a interesting article by Lee Pace from UNC's official athletic site.

Re: Butch Davis

I was at the press conference and posted a little video at Chapel Hill Journal of the highlights. I left early, though. It was all too predictable. I applaud Davis for his patience in taking his time for over a year after being let go by the Browns to find just the right $1.8 million annual contract. Win or lose, he stands to leave UNC a very wealthy man. There was to much punting under Bunting...but he had a helluva recruiting class for next year...so Davis should do well his first year. At least we can look down the road at Duke's pathetic program and say there but for the grace of God go I!

Re: Butch Davis

Hey, thanks for posting! I'm unfamiliar with Bunting's last recruiting class. What kind of talent is Davis inheriting?

Re: Butch Davis

The last recruiting class was very good, but you would never know it seeing that about 21 of the 25 players were redshirted. Scout.com gave them a #25 ranking for their recruiting class, which they seem to get every year.

They had three 4 star recruits with one being Hakeem Nicks who had a great year this year with virtually no quarterback throwing to him. And the word is that some of the better defensive players are part of this class and will see their first action next year.

We only had about 4 kids that used their first year while the others were redshirted.

#25 is good enough to build on & have a winning record.

Why so many redshirts? Bunting thought he'd go undefeated without them, right?

Re: Butch Davis

Butch Davis to be on Tarheel Network at halftime and possibly ESPN in the 2nd half.

Here is a link to the Tarheel network.
