Freshmen Key Tar Heels' Second-Half Comeback :: UNC (2-0) advances to NIT semis in New York

Tyler Hansbrough had 20 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 2 North Carolina rallied to beat Winthrop 73-66 Wednesday in the NIT Season Tip-Off. Freshmen Wayne Ellington added 13 points and Brandan Wright scored 12 for the Tar Heels, who overcame 25 points from the Eagles' Torrell Martin to advance to the semifinals next week in New York against the winner of a late game Wednesday between Gonzaga and Baylor.

Oh, man, was this one ever closer than it should've been. Winthrop played the Heels tough, and at this point, I've got to start to wonder if this UNC team is as good as advertised. Well, are they?

Don't forget that Winthrop is the team that almost upset Tennessee who was ranked #2 in the Washington DC Regional. The Vols won 63 - 61. They are a small team with some pop. So you can't count those schools out (i.e. Santa Clara in the 2004 - 2005 season).

But on another note, how about ORU putting it on Kansas. That very well could have been the upset of the season. There have been a lot of hopes for Kansas this year. But as UNC proved two years ago, that one lose means nothing sometimes.

Yeah, that was a HUGE upset. Never saw it coming. If that's any indication, this should be a fascinating college hoops season!
