John Bunting Fired

I just read on tarheelblue.com that John Bunting will coach the remainder of the season and will not return as head football coach next year.

Carolina To Make Football Coaching Change For 2007 :: John Bunting will continue to coach the Tar Heels for the rest of this season.

I can now sleep at night!

Re: John Bunting Fired

Well it's a sad day and a good one, But just remember what will we give up to have a good football team. The school goes out and say hey, be a role model to these kids, help them get a degree, keep the out of trouble and by the win. JB didn't win that much but in his years he has been a Carolina guy all the way and my hat is off to him, for what he has done not only for the school, but the kids that came into the football.

So I don't see how you can sleep better at night

I can sleep better knowing that I am not investing my money on a team that is going to lose. I hope.

Any speculation yet on who might be Bunting's replacement at UNC?

Re: John Bunting Fired

There are so many names flying around that it's hard to say. But, atleast they did it early so that they could have more time to find someone.

Re: John Bunting Fired

True. Two guys I'm wondering about. One is Bill Cowher of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who earlier this year bought a house in the Carolina area and seem interested in leaving the defending Super Bowl Champs. The other is the Tennessee offensive coordinator Cutcliffe, who has done a fantastic job turning that offense around and has gone on record as saying he'd love to be a head coach again. What do you think of the Heels chances of landing either one of those two coaches?

Thats crazy, the next coach that comes in I hope he has as much class as JB, But UNC is NOT a B-Ball or F-Ball school, it is a house of learning and along the way we play sports and when w & L can get a coach fired it is a sad day. Sure we all want wins, but JB players were getting degrees from one the best schools in the nation they had something to fall back on. But let's just look at the wins.

We could get a coach and win but at what price, like V-Teach, FSU, OU. I hope not I am a tarheel and I played at UNC and I wish the staff back then had pushed more players to go to class insted of wins.

We are not UF, FSU, OU, V-Tech or UT, We are UNC and once upon a time that mean or players had degrees and we on to become something more then just a ball player.

Re: John Bunting Fired

You know. There is no reason to get in an uproar about this. It's done and overwith. You have your opinion and I have mine. And no matter what you say, I will still feel the way I do. I love football. I'm tired of going to a football game and not being able to enjoy myself because we are being slaughtered.

On the other note. I have heard Cowher come up on several occasions. But he is a state guy. But who cares. The rumor was that Chuck the Chest was going to be fired but I don't think that will happen now. So Cowher could come to UNC. Another I heard was I think Gary Johnson from Navy, Jeff Fisher from the Titans, someone even said that Old Lou Holtz come out of retirement...but I don't think that will happen.

Hey, I'll take a Bowden, send Terry our way.

Re: John Bunting Fired

Why do I have the feeling that someone already has the job? I've heard the rumors about Bill Cowher before the season even started. Just where in North Carolina did he buy a home? If it's in or near Chapel Hill, Baddor is more of a sneak than I give him credit for. I had this same feeling before Matt Doherty got fired. Does Cowher and baddor play golf together?

Re: John Bunting Fired

I read a story about this in the News & observer a while back.

newsobserver.com | Cowher buys in Raleigh

from the research I did, he bought a house through his trust in the chatsworth neighborhood for around $1,100,000. That neighborhood is hear Norwood and six forks road.

Hey, I hope he comes. He is the only coach who has seen how great of a player Willie Parker truely is.

Re: John Bunting Fired

And on top of that, the Steelers have some young ex heels players: Jeff Reed, Willie Parker, and Greg Warren.

Re: John Bunting Fired

The best decision the University could make is to fire Baddour and then hire a young, but proven successful, collegiate coach who understands the proper role of the University in college athletics but has the ability to recuit and motivate B+ (and occasional A type) college athletes to be competive in the ACC and to obtain their degree. It is possible to succeed at UNC without contending for the National Championship.

Re: John Bunting Fired

Bill Cowher is a State guy, and if he's going to take a college job it'll probably be there. Also UNC couldn't afford Bill Cowher. Most likely the candidates will include Butch Davis, Paul Johnson, Bobby Petrino (he applies for every other opening), and Rich Rodriguez (can leverage a raise from WVU). I personally would like to hire Greg Davis back from Texas just to stick it to Mack.

Re: John Bunting Fired

Good points sjohnston2...Those are all great candidates. The thing I like about letting everyone know the intent in this part of the season is that it gives the administration more time to search for a new coach like Florida did when they went after Urban Meyer.

Re: John Bunting Fired

Bill Cower went to NC State. There is no way he is going to become the Coach at UNC.
