Hi davidpriestley, welcome to GoTeamsGo

If not Cowher, who do you think has potential to fill the head coach position?

Thumbs up Re: John Bunting Fired

If you think Bill Cowher is coming you are loosing it. The name I am hearing is Butch Davis, and also the guy from Navy, by the way wahtat has he done at Navy. The guy I would love to see us pursue is the coach from Rutgers. He ahs done a fabulous job with taht program but I hear he is a jersey guy and would not leave. I think we need to fire Dick Baddour and replace him with John Bunting as the AD. He may not can coach but I bet he can runthe athletic department better than baddour who is the reason we are in this mess to begin with. I think we need to start a fire Dick baddour campaign!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: John Bunting Fired

Butch Davis is everybody's top candidate unfortunately. With so many programs looking make changes at the end of this year, it's going to take some serious money to win that race. He also still has an eye focused on the NFL coaching situation. Greg Schiano appears happy at Rutgers, but he's a former Miami assistant, and he's going to be at the top of the list to replace Larry Coker and either Rutgers is going to pay him big money or Miami is. Paul Johnson at the Naval Academy is a good coach. He's won there and gone to bowl games consistently at one of the toughest academic institutions in the country. I'd like to see what he could do at a regular university. Rich Rodriguez is a WVU grad, and is just going to use the situation to get a raise to what he actually deserves to be paid. Tom O'Brien and Jim Grobe have too much class to jump to another school in the same conference as BC and WF. If UNC puts together the right compensation package, the candidate pool will be very talented. However, Baddour is the guy who picked John Bunting over Mark Richt...

David Glenn from WRAL out of Raleigh has a blog that has been posting from great information on the next UNC football coach. So if you have not read it, here is a link to the latest blog.

Re: John Bunting Fired

Paul Johnson, Greg Schiano and David Cutcliffe all would be fine choices. Rich Rodriguez? Like I said elsewhere, there's no chance he leaves #3 WVU for North Carolina. And isn't Butch Davis pretty much a lock for the Miami job, once Coker is fired at year's end?

Re: John Bunting Fired

The best thing that could happen to UNC athletic is to fire Dick Baddour! Look at his record of hires: Carl Torbush, John Bunting, Matt Doreghty, and Roy Williams. Of that bunch Williams is the only winner. He has interviewed and let get away some really great coaches in the past. Remember that Frank Beammer was intertested enough to come to Chapel Hill and talk before Bunting was hired for the football job. Larry Brown wanted the basketball job when matt was hired, that is until he flew in and talked to "good ole Dick." So far Dick's hiring percentage of good coaches is 25%. Thats a smaller wining percetage than John Bunting.

Bunting is a class guy, and I'm sorry it worked out this way, but a school like UNC deserves winners coaching every sport, and as for my sincere friend that says that character is the ONLY thing that matters, it is VERY IMPORTANT! but charcater alone doesn't keep the money coming in to run the program. I've spend 20 years as a high school and college football official, and I don't care what anyone says, John Buntings teams are poorly coached!
