| Empire's Final 1st Round Mock Draft 1. Miami Dolphins- OT Jake Long, Michigan
*Long already signed so this has been in the books for a few days. Only left is the formality of being "chosen" and taking pictures with Mr. Commish.
2. St. Louis Rams- DT Glenn Dorsey, LSU
*Interesting spot because it will influence the rest of the round. IMO, the Jets could trade up to get Darren McFadden. I'm not projecting trades so I'll go with the safer bet. Word is the Rams are debating whether to take Dorsey or Chris Long.
3. Atlanta Falcons- QB Matt Ryan, Boston College
*If Dorsey is on the board, Falcons would probably go with him. However, between Chris Long and Matt Ryan, they go with the potential franchise QB.
4. Oakland Raiders- RB Darren McFadden, Arkansas
*Sources say Al Davis is pushing for McFadden while most of the coaches would prefer a defensive player. Guess who wins out.
5. Kansas City Chiefs- DE Chris Long, Virginia
*The Chiefs are looking to trade down but may not be able to find a suitor. So they go with the best pass rusher available to replace Jared Allen.
6. New York Jets- DE Vernon Gholston, Ohio State
*They would probably love to get McFadden or Ryan but unless they can trade up, may not be able to get either. So like the Chiefs, they go with the best avilable pass rusher.
7. New England Patriots- G Branden Albert, Virginia
*Surprise, an offensive guard goes in the Top 10. The Patriots o-line looked awful in the Super Bowl so they go to add some beef. They could look to trade down but none of the 'big guys' are on the board. They could also look to add a linebacker/pass rusher.
8. Baltimore Ravens- DT Sedrick Ellis, USC
*Baltimore will look to trade down, if they can't, they go BPA with Ellis. Or they take the first corner in the draft.
9. Cincinnati Bengals- DE Derrick Harvey, Florida
*The Bengals add perhaps the best pass rusher available to their defense. They could go LB or corner as well.
10. New Orleans Saints- CB Leodis McKelvin, Troy
*The Saints are reportedly eager to trade up to pick up one of the defensive tackles. If they can't, they wil still look to improve their defense with either a LB or a corner. At 10, they will have the pick of the litter as far as corners go.
11. Buffalo Bills- CB Dominique Cromartie-Rodgers, Tennessee State
*A workout warrior, Rodgers should be the #2 corner off the board, although Mike Jenkins is getting a lot of respect. Bills want a WR but it makes no sense here.
12. Denver Broncos- LB Jerod Mayo, Tennessee
*First surprise of the draft. Mayo has been moving up draft boards quicker than the NY press can write about Jeremy Shockey. Broncos could take the first OT of the draft here but they see a great value pick in a LB (either Mayo or Keith Rivers).
13. Carolina Panthers- RB Jonathan Stewart, Oregon
*Stewart is ranked as the top RB by some and the Panthers need a playmaker on offense. They could also take one of the offensive tackles to sure up that line, too.
14. Chicago Bears- OT Ryan Clady, Boise State
*If Clady falls to them, they're thrilled. They likely don't think twice.
15. Detroit Lions- RB Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois
*They want an inside linebacker but the top ones are already gone. So they look to replace Kevin Jones in the first round.
16. Arizona Cardinals- CB Mike Jenkins, South Florida
*He could go higher but the Cardinals look to replace Antrel Rolle who moves to safety. Cards could look at RB but not if Mendenhall goes before.
17. Kansas City Chiefs- OT Jeff Otah, Pittsburgh
*Needless to say, with all the retirements, they need to pump up their o-line. Otah is an easy selection.
18. Houston Texans- OT Chris Williams, Vanderbilt
*According to some, the Texans are coveting Williams. If he's still on the board, they take him.
19. Philadelphia Eagles- CB Aqib Talib, Kansas
*Lito Sheppard is being shopped so the Eagles will need to add some youth. Talib is the top corner still on the board.
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- WR Devin Thomas, Michigan State
21. Washington Redskins- LB Keith Rivers, USC
22. Dallas Cowboys- RB Felix Jones, Arkansas
23. Pittsburgh Steelers- OT Gosder Cherilus, Boston College
24. Tennessee Titans- DE Phillip Merling, Clemson
25. Seattle Seahawks- DT Kentwan Balmer, North Carolina
26. Jacksonville Jaguars- DE Calais Campbell, Miami
27. San Diego Chargers- RB Chris Johnson, East Carolina
28. Dallas Cowboys- CB Branden Flowers, Virginia Tech
29. San Francisco 49ers- WR Limas Sweed, Texas
30. Green Bay Packers- CB Antoine Cason, Arizona
31. New York Giants- S Kenny Phillips, Miami |
