Tentative 2008 Draft Order

With one week left in the regular season, most of the draft is somewhat clearer. Of course, the playoff teams' draft order will be decided in January. As for the non-playoff teams, here how the order looks going into Week 17. Miami is guaranteed the #1 pick. The percentage next to the records indicates opponents win/loss percentage.

1 Miami 1-14 .533
2 St. Louis 3-12 .513
3 New York Jets 3-12 .525
4 Atlanta 3-12 .529

5 Kansas City 4-11 .508
6 Oakland 4-11 .513
7 Baltimore 4-11 .517

8 New England (from San Francisco) 5-10 .467
9 Cincinnati 6-9 .458
10 Denver 6-9 .525
11 Carolina 6-9 .533
12 Chicago 6-9 .554

13 Arizona 7-8 .438
14 New Orleans 7-8 .475
15 Buffalo 7-8 .508
16 Houston 7-8 .521
17 Detroit 7-8 .542
18 Philadelphia 7-8 .575

19 Minnesota 8-7 .500
20 Washington 8-7 .563

21 Tennessee 9-6 .500
22 Dallas (from Cleveland) 9-6 .425

-Minnesota and Washington are trying for the 6th NFC playoff seed.
-Cleveland and Tennessee are trying for the 6th AFC playoff seed.

So whomever makes the playoffs will have at least the 21st overall pick. The teams who don't make the playoffs will pick 19th and 20th.

Funny to see the Rams there. It's not like that team doesn't have talent. They definitely have the most turnaround potential of those top 5-7 teams ( i.e. they have the best shot to turn it around and be a playoff team in 2008 ).

I want to put this in the nicest way possible. The percentages make absolutely no sense at all.

I'm liking were the Bears are at because that seems to be in the range for Andre Woodson and Matt Ryan. But serious the Patriots have the 8th pick how can they get any better?

I bet it'll either be an o-line pick or one on the defense. Their skill position guys are set.

Oh.

If I was the Vikings I'd give my 1, 2, 3, and 4th picks for a decent quarterback. Don't know what they will loose to free agency, but there is a team, unlike the Bears, where a good quarterback could make a huge difference. They might make the playoffs this year, but probably won't go very far. It must be painful for their fans to watch teams stack up to stop the run, and their quarterback can't take advantage of it.

I really hope the panthers invest in some offense in this draft.

If had to take a guess I would think it would be a DB.

Re: Tentative 2008 Draft Order

Vikings would do well to try to sign McNabb. The Jets need to grab McFadden if he is there for them. The Rams need major Offensive line help. The Dolphins more than likely will trade down and grab as many quality guys as they can.

McNabb would be a good pick up for Minnesota, no doubt. The Rams should pick o-line and the Jets should snag a tailback. The Fins, I'm not sure about. Unless you can get a king's ransom for the #1 pick, I think you have to use it. How often do you get a chance like that?

Re: Tentative 2008 Draft Order

Dolphins could use the top pick on an olineman or a top defensemen. I'm not sure if they prefer one over the other at this point.

Rams should definitely look into replacing Orlando Pace (is he going to retire?).

The Phins will take Glen Dorsey or Chris Long to start building the defense that the Tuna wants.
