Now all these QBS are no good?

Football is afunny sport. After the Rose Bowl, Vince Young, Reggie Bush, and Matt Lienhart were 1-2-3 in the draft, no matter how you sliced it. But without playing a single down in the past 4 and a half months, they have become much worse players? Unbeleivable. These draft experts fade into the woodwork after the draft, never having to answer for what they got wrong.
Combines are ridiculous. How would fran tarkenton fare at one of those today? In today's NFL, he wouldn't even be drafted. They times they say these 300 pounders run is a farce. Ever see those fat lards chasing a guy when he has intercepted the ball and is weaving thru them?
Bush was the most elusive running back I have ever seen in college, and that includes Barry Sanders. I saw Notre Dame players treating him like the cops treated Hannibal Lecter, scared stiff if he got loose! Young is an exceptional athlete that just needs alittle bit of tweaking and Lienhart is a proven winner from a pro style offense that played in a multitude of big games. But all of a sudden these three are chopped liver! I listened to one guy on the radio today saying that the Jets would be nuts to take Lienhart because he won't be able to throw the ball at the windy Meadowlands! Apparently you need the football version of Nolan Ryan to play there. Too much paralysis by analysis folks. These are the same people who proclaimed guys like Ryan Leaf and Joey Harrington to be can't miss prospects, then hold them up as examples of flops when their names are mentioned! I wonder how fast Dick Butkus ran the 40, or how high Joe Namath could jump.

Re: Now all these QBS are no good?

Crazy, isn't it? There's too much information available to these GMs and they put too much value in the wrong stuff, as you said. 40-times, bench presses, Wonderlic scores are good when you're trying to decide between two guys you already have graded very, very close. They should never hurt a player as much as they hurt Vince Young or LenDale White, because these guys spent all of the past two years proving that they could play the game of football and win. Shouldn't that be all that really matters?

But it is what it is... one of these guys will be an early pick, then the others fall out of the top 10. And somebody gets themself a steal of a franchise QB.

QB is such a tricky pick i honestly dont think it should be wasted on a 1st round pick

1st round picks need to go on more versitile players like a 6'5" 260 lb defensive player

Re: Now all these QBS are no good?

Butkus was a beast even on bad knees...some players are not workout horses...they are Sunday warriors...

Some QBs are worth a high pick...I think Matt proved his leadership skills, and Young's athletic skills are hard to turn down...having said that Cutler was rated highest by Steve Young and Ron Jaworski...Jaworski said he looked at film of every one of Culters throws...

Hard to believe the Jets passed on all of them...(well given Young was taken)..

Cool Re: Now all these QBS are no good?

Simon - I don't know if I agree. Sure there are busts in the 1st round but that is true at every position. Some 1st round Qb successes: John Elway, Dan Marino, Carson Palmer, Donavan McNaab, Troy Aikman, Peyton Manning, Ben Rothlisberger, Terry Bradshaw, Bert Jones.

Re: Now all these QBS are no good?

my point is that if you draft a guy that is 6'5" and 255lbs say

if he has the talent and desire it takes, he may need a little weight adjustment but he can play

linebacker
D-line
tight end
fullback

all really good QBs i can think of can only play QB

Kordell could play reciever, but imo he wasnt a very good QB

Kerry Collins wasnt THAT bad. At least not bad enough to be on a list with Akili Smith, Ryan Leaf and Rick Mirer. Collins took the Panthers to an NFC Championship Game and the Giants to the SuperBowl. Those other losers couldnt even hold on to a starting postion in the NFL.
