| My Mock (Top Ten only) #1, Oakland Raiders: Calvin Johnson (WR), Georgia Tech The Raiders keep getting linked with every QB in the league it seems. josh McCown and Tim Rattay the most recent ones. In my opinion, it's a tool to try and get the Buc's to trade up. The Buc's and the Raiders have a trade history if you remember and Bruce Allen (Buc's GM) has a knowledge of the Raiders and how they work. As it is, I think the Raiders might sign Rattay before the draft but even if they don't, they are either going to trade the pick to the Buc's or draft Johnson and try and trade him to Tampa then. #2, Detroit Lions: Gaines Adams (DE), Clemson The Raiders taking Johnson at #1 messes up Detroit completely. Ideally they'd like CJ on the board and then swap with the Buc's but if CJ is gone, they'll have no takers for the pick. I've said before, i think they should take a QB (Quinn) but given Martz's history of developing unknowns and low rounders I think they'll stick with what they have at QB. They want Adams, they just don't want him at #2 but once Johnson is off the board, they'll have no choice. #3, Cleveland Browns: JaMarcus Russell (QB), LSU Dream situation for the Browns, they want an offensive skill player and a QB first and foremost. Russell's upside tempts them to take him over Quinn. #4, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Brady Quinn (QB), Notre Dame This pick is either traded to the Raiders or they call the Raiders bluff, in which case, the Raiders take Johnson and then possibly instruct (or wait for Tampa to take whichever QB is left at #4 then do a swap of picks in a trade which will include plenty more from Tampa. The Raiders do want a QB and they just want to maximise the value of that #1 pick - this is how I predict they do it. Eventually, Johnson is a Buccaneer and Quinn is a Raider. #5, Arizona Cardinals: Joe Thomas (OT), Wisconsin Maybe the most obvious pick of the first 5! A few months back, I believed the Cards would have to trade up to #2 to take Thomas, not anymore. Thomas looks likely to slip down to #5 because the Lions added a OT via trade and have a lot of money tied into Backus, the Buc's recently signed Luke Petitgout and the Browns have invested a bunch of free agent dollars into the OL in recent years. Thomas to the Cards is a banker and if it happens, I am firmly on board the Cards 'they'll be good this year' bandwagon that i refused to get on the last two seasons. #6, Atlanta Falcons (via Washington Redskins): Laron Landry (S), LSU Seems the Falcons are between two players, Landry and Okoye. Landry's recent work-outs, the fact the Skins are seen as being very interested in drafting him and the Falcons having the ammo to trade up means they make sure and send either a 2nd or 3rd round pick to the Redskins who would like Landry but need the extra picks just as much. #7, Minnesota Vikings: Adrian Peterson (RB), Oklahoma They'd really like Johnson, but it's going to cost too much to move up to #1 and they are not risking the #7 on reaching for the likes of Bowe, Jarrett, Ginn or Meachem so they take Peterson who'll team up nicely with Chester Taylor in the ever increasing popular dual running back attack that teams like to feature these days. #8, Washington Redskins (via Atlanta Falcons and Houston Texans): Amobi Okoye (DT), Louisville If the Redskins had a full complement of picks, I think they'd stay at #6 and take Landry but given the needs for extra picks, if the Falcons come a calling with the offer of an extra choice to move down two spots, the Redskins have to say yes. they have enough defensive needs to change tack and will be very happy to take Okoye who'll add youth to a very old and under productive DL. #9, Miami Dolphins: Levi Brown (OT), Penn St They want Quinn and if he does slip to #6, I think they'll be the ones to trade up for the #6 spot. As it is, I think with what I am predicting happening between the Raiders and Buc's, they have no chance so they address a big need on their offensive line by adding Brown who they hope they can pop in at Left Tackle and forget about that position as a need for 10+ years. #10, Houston Texans (via Atlanta Falcons): Leon Hall (CB), Michigan They'd like Peterson, Brown, even Okoye or Landry but they aren't moving back up and corner is a need so Hall makes a lot of sense. I had Alan Branch going here last time I thought about it but I see Branch being the bigger slip on draft day.
