| Draft prospects admit marijuana use Shocking news being reported by Yahoo! Sports: "Top NFL prospects Calvin Johnson, Gaines Adams and Amobi Okoye reportedly admitted to marijuana use during interviews with teams in February... Pro Football Weekly, citing anonymous sources, reported the three players, all expected to go early in the April 28 draft, made the admissions at the NFL combine during routine interviews." If this is true, how will it impact each of their draft status?

they will have a drug test and an interview .... so long as they pass both they will still be high draft picks these teams greed for winning and money is very powerful ... clouds their vision |

| Re: Draft prospects admit marijuana use This won't affect them one bit. Johnson, Adams and Okoye will all go in the top 10 and should be successful pro's. I'm sure the amount of kids in the draft who experimented with pot is a big number. Besides, reading a bit on Johnson and Okoye, both seem to be big character guys who will be nothing but great players on the field and off in the pros. |

| Re: Draft prospects admit marijuana use I remember when Warren Sapp dropped a few places in 1996 for the same thing...I personally wouldn't draft anyone...but that's me personally...GMs of teams drafting would be hard pressed not to pass on CJ and company |

| Re: Draft prospects admit marijuana use Not by any means do I approve, but these are college kids. Did they do it now and then, or are they another Ricky Williams? Maybe they have it out of their system. And as long as they pass their drug tests, I cant see why this would have any affect on their draft prospects. Teams have taken a lot bigger risks on a lot of other players. Besides, they admitted it. Whats to say the others do it too only they havent admitted it? Again, by no means do I approve but I am not sure I understand what the big uproar is about. |

| NFL Players Association executive director Gene Upshaw reached out to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Friday to address a leak of information regarding the reported admission by at least three highly regarded players that they smoked marijuana at some point in their lives. NFLPA spokesman Carl Francis said the union was concerned about what it considered "confidential" information being turned over to the media. Francis indicated that the union would be expecting some type of investigation about how the information was leaked. Furthermore, the union expressed concern that the league and/or teams would even ask about past use of banned substances given that the players are screened for drug use before entering the league. | Re: Draft prospects admit marijuana use Seems like a two headed monster. They are admitting to it, which immediately puts a cloud over their heads and could also introduce doubt in the minds of GM's. If the GM's don't take advantage of their current abilities then they are jeopardizing their teams standings. For me an easy solution is that drug testing should be done more often. I know there are those who argue that it is an invasion and there are those who don't see the roles of these people as role models, but for many they are just that. If they are clean then there shouldn't be any big issue about giving a sample to test. If I had to prove my innocence, and I was innocent, I'd be happy to have them test me. I also think that testing positive needs more punishment. If it's illegal then make the penalties stand. I also do not approve of drugs but if at the time of testing they are negative what do you really have to go on ??? How many people brag about other issues they've never done ?? |
