The Good: Powerful senior has been a strong, battering-ram type runner and lead blocker. He has a big, thick frame and the strength and quickness to get to the line with the technique and toughness to contain a defender the full play.

The Bad: He has a complete game at a diminished position for the pros. He needs to refine his pass catching skills to challenge for a job in the NFL as a complimentary fullback, though he has shown the talent to perform those key duties.

Outlook: He is a prospect with interesting potential to start in time. His strong lead blocking gives him a chance to compete for a roster spot in a traditional fullback role, and he is solid performer in all areas of the position. He is similar to the Chargers’ Lorenzo Neal in size, athletic ability and style. Possible late pick or free agent with marginal athletic ability. He has the blocking skills to make it and challenge for a starting job in his career.

Comparisons to Lorenzo Neal certainly are promising. We'll have to keep an eye on him.

That's the great thing about having both pro and college football experts here. The NCAA guys can give up insight into the athletes (especially the diamonds in the rough like this kid McClain), and the NFL guys and keep us abreast of team needs. Not a ton of NFL teams still use pure FBs, but I'm sure there's a spot for him somewhere. Pittsburgh, maybe? They probably could use a kid like this in the later rounds.

NFL.com said the Browns have made some recent calls this morning to try and trade for the #1 pick. Oakland however has asked for a king's ransom (Cleveland's 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks this year and their 1st next year). Cleveland may have wanted Russell but it appears Oakland will pick him.

Interesting... that's the same thing Denver offered for the #2 pick to get Johnson. Surprised to hear the Browns had such interest in Russell... they've been playing that one pretty close to the vest. Anyway you look at it, it's too much to surrender for moving up two spots.

If the Browns were so eager to get Russell, I'm guessing this means they're not high on Quinn. So I'd expect them to pass.
