Perhaps some of you have noticed that our good friend Racer Duck, known as Charlie to many of his friends here on GTG, has been absent for several days.
Today we learned that last Friday Charlie suffered a heart attack. I will quote in his own words:

"I had a heart attack Fri Nite and was transported by EMS to the hospital after they fixed an elevated pulse (161).

Saturday AM I had an angiogram where they roto-rooted two arteries on my heart and installed 2 stents..

Because I came win with "V-Tach" (that's the elevated pulse thing, I can give your the long words if you want, just ask) I had to go get my "wiring" checked yesterday. In the process of checking the wiring, they try to induce the V-Tach problem .. they didn't even breathe hard and my heart was sailing off into the wild blue wonder. So they installed an AICD, which is a combination pacemaker and defibrillator."

He has an appointment to be sure everything is working correctly and there is also a biopsy report that is unrelated to his heart but he is not expecting good news there.
He says he feels fine, but gets tired quickly.
He has promised to keep us updated here. In the event he cannot do it himself, his son will do it. (His son tried Saturday night but didnt want to wait the necessary time for approval. Charlie knew we would be wondering where he was, he was thinking of us)
He says he will be on, but his time will be limited. I believe he is posting tonight.
Charlie, I join with many of your other friends here to pray for you, keep you in my thoughts, and wish you well.

I'll be praying for you duck.Heart problems are not fun.I've been dealing with Congestive Heart Failure since 2001.Thank God for a good cardiologist and meds.Sit back and get healed up cause we want you around for awhile.

Well, let him know we are renting out his spacious office to a "fly by night, shipping company" in order to raise money for GTG...I am sure RD will understand...though the movers accidently knicked a few of his more valueable coffee mug collection, and totally shattered the one that he said Marilyn Monroe gave him.

Also, the boys down the Hall are passing around a hat to collect money for a get well soon card...and so far they have 45 cents, an old stamp, and a piece of bubble gum still in the wrapper, but the day is young...

Thanks to all for the warm wishes.

And, Goth, that mug was my favorite .. I never washed it 'cause I could still smell her perfume on it after all these years .. somebody's gonna pay BIG TIME!!! no prob on the office rental .. I was thinking about setting up a cabana down on the beach so I wouldn't have so far to walk.... now I have the perfect excuse to do it!

Shoulda known Bette couldn't keep her hands out of the cookie jar .. in this case the donation can. luckily I'm not much of a bubble gum fan .. I quit when I couldn't get it with the baseball cards any more.


Status update:

• yesterday, mostly out of spite towards all the people who told me I'm spending too much time at the computer and need to get more exercise, I walked a quarter of a mile! my plan is to double that by the time the weekend is over.
• except for some soreness where they put in the ICD (that's what everyone calls the pacemaker/defibrillator) I'm doing good.
• I'm restricted from driving 'till I have my first followup next week ('can't fly either since I can't raise my left arm above my shoulder.)
• today is my last day of 3 days without a shower .. come on sundown!!!
• my DIL (daughter-in-law) told me yesterday that she and I are gonna watch "Gone With The Wind" this weekend. it's her favorite movie and, believe it or not, I've never seen it .. well not much of it anyway - there's a story there for another time.
• I haven't seen the bill yet, but suspect it's way over my annual income. Thank all of you who are paying the bill (Medicare & Social Security), I really appreciate your kind gesture.
