| Re: Racer Duck Think it's been a while since I updated everyone on me. Doc says I'm doing fine. I'm doing a steady 24-28 minute mile every day, but Doc wants me to do it in the AM, not 2PM (he thinks it's too hot, but then he works in an air conditioned office!!!) It did get to about 92 about noontime today, but I'd already finished my walk. The tick-tock folks checked out the mechanical ticker and said everything was as it should be. There'll be some more news coming in a couple weeks, but it's too early to leak it. (No, I'm not gonna tell you via PM, so don't even ask.) I'll be spending this weekend with my daughter and her hubby at their "country home" (i.e., what us rednecks call a mobile home in the sticks) My SIL (son-in-law) is an avid skeet shooter, so I suspect we'll be littering the surrounding area with little bb's. (We try to keep as many clays whole as we can so we can re-use them Then on Sunday evening we'll move back to their regular place with running water and electricity (it's 4 miles outside a little town that doesn't even have a flashing traffic light!) and do normal type stuff 'till I leave Monday afternoon for home. But I'll be back the following weekend to dog-sit while they run off to Shreveport, or someplace like that, to boost the local economy at the casinos. I plan on doing absolutely almost nothing constructive the whole weekend. As part of my doing nothing, I'm gonna be without the 'net .. in fact I don't think my cell even works out there. They've got plenty of trees, so if anything important happens, I've got my official Woodchuck Smoke Signal Book packed .. we just have to make sure we don't catch anything on fire that shouldn't be. A friend said their place is so far back in the sticks they have to pipe sunlight in to it, but I think he's exaggerating a tiny bit 'cause they have daylight and dark at the normal times and occasionally we see clouds and/or a blue sky .. but it's still a 5 mile drive to the mailbox. So, I'll see ya'll Monday nite or Tuesday. Wishing everyone a Great Weekend. And, take Monday off .. you deserve it!!! |

| Re: Racer Duck Evertything is bigger in Texas, even their stories. Pipe sunlight in huh? Then why is it so darn hot? Glad you updated. If you had been gone that long, I would have gone into panic mode. You and the son in law have fun shooting those clay things.

| Re: Racer Duck Guess I put this off long enough. There's more.... re: my health, I know everyone knows about my heart .. and it's not the best, but everything seems to be working, tho the heart is not up to par, at least it's working. However, there's also another "bomb" I haven't told anyone on GTG 'till now: back in May when I had my heart attack, I'd been to the urologist the day before for a biopsy on my prostate. Result is I have prostate cancer. I've already started treatment for it, a combination of hormone injections and radiation. I got my first hormone injection almost 3 months ago. It normally takes a month or so to start working and now I'm having 10-20 hot flashes every day .. this last month has been hell!!! You ladies have my utmost respect for enduring them. So now that the hormone has started to work, the radiation is getting ready to start. As part of getting ready for that, yesterday I went in to the radiologist, had my PSA checked & we re-discussed and agreed again on the treatment (I think this is the 4th time we've agreed .. seems kinda redundant, but I'm not paying the bill - thanks all you tax payers .. Medicare is wonderful!) Then went back today for an MRI. The actual radiation starts on the 14th (they use the MRI images to run the computer that controls the radiation - real high tech stuff) I'll get 45 radiation treatments over the course of 9 weeks (15 mins a day, 5 days a week) .. not bad, but I have to drive 35 miles each direction.... And I'm on the hormone for a year (only 9 more months to go!) Plus I've had a couple sleep apnea tests and have been diagnosed with that (one of my cardiologists called for it since 90% of people with my particular heart ailment also have sleep apena even tho they aren't related - but an apnea event could trigger a heart event so they think we ought to cover all the bases.) I've been sleeping with the mask for 3 weeks now .. I think it helps but it's a real pain 'cause this duck is a little larger than the average bear and I haven't found a mask that fits well .. but the one I've got now is "adequate". And with my heart working at only 30% capacity, I don't have any stamina and by the 9pm or so I'm worn out, tho I usually watch TV (movies) in bed 'till about midnight before I feel sleepy. Yes, I'm up late tonight. But thought I ought to give this update 'cause I've been pretty scarce around here recently 'cause of all the "real life" things going on. I would say my heart is at GTG, but that's not saying much .. I think you know what I mean, tho. On a brighter note our racing is picking up and we're definitely seeing major improvements every time we race (I'll update the "Just Wanna Race" thread in the next couple days.) And now that the weather is giving us a break (it only got to 96 today) I'm able to get outside for longer times and putter in the garden or work on the race car. I've decided I've got to slow down if I'm gonna last another 35-40 years, so now I'm walking slower. Not much, but it's a start. Later...... |

| Re: Racer Duck I agree Medicare is wonderful. Although I believe we paid for it ourselves all the years we were working, theoretically that is. There was an older guy who was a bagger at the local grocery store for a while. Just an absolute joy. He got prostrate cancer. Only he developed in the chest area if you know what I mean. He thought it was hilarious. His health forced him to retire a second time. I still miss seeing him. The stamina thing is such a big issue with heart patients. Most of the ones I know though sleep a lot. It seems you are doing as well as could be expected. Still got'cha covered with the Guy upstairs. |
