Thoughts & Prayers for Lefty's Nephew

My partner and co-Administrator is Chuck, aka Lefty Noob.

Chuck's 11 year old nephew was diagnosed with leukemia yesterday and lifeflighted to Akron Children's Hospital. Today the diagnosis was confirmed. Chuck's very close to his nephew and will likely be mostly away for an indefinite period of time. I've spent some time in prayer for all involved and I hope you'll do the same.

As Chuck has time to pass along any updates, we'll post that here.

An update from today:

In fact, they say that in 90% of the cases, the first chemo treatments send it into remission for as much as 5 years. We're very hopeful, although the poor kiddo's pretty frightened right now... He's going to be hospitalized initially for 7-10 more days. After that, we'll see.

Hi Chuck,

So sorry to hear about your nephew. It is very, very good news that the cure rate is so high...that is wonderful!! I am sure that it is very hard for an 11 year old to grasp, even scary. Please know that you, your nephew and all his family are in my prayers.

Please keep us informed, and if you need to reach out to others that will understand please visit A Room For All Who Have Been Touched By Cancer

they helped me out like no one else could when I went thru this. I was known as RAM there. They are a great support group .....

Take Care

Hey Lefty,

My Prayers are with your nephew as well...

Let me know his favorite team and players and I will mail him some sports cards.

Hey Ross,

Can't we take up a paypal collection and get the kid a neat football jersey or something?...I'd pitch in.

Gotham

Wow, I had a family member who was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago but luckily, they're cancer-free today. There's no doubt Lefty, your nephew will be able to fight and survive.

Think positive

Chuck, aka Lefty, I also wanted to say that my thoughts and prayers are with you, your nephew and family throughout this extremely difficult time. At least, it sounds like there is hope!! It's very sad that he must endure this at this young age, I'm sure it's very tramatic for him. Luckily, we are in the era of modern medicine and they've come along way with improved treatments, etc.. My mother died in 1987 of cancer, only recently have they come up with the "causes" for it and a "treatment". Unfortuantely, they couldn't figure it out back then, but now they can help the people who are diagnosised with the same form of cancer. I will be thinking about you and yours throughout these long days. Would it be possible to post an address so that we may send him cards? Granted, it's not much, but maybe it will help lift his spirits knowing that alot of people are out here praying for and thinking about him!! God be with you and yours. Vickie

Re: Thoughts & Prayers for Lefty's Nephew

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the kind words and prayers. It means a lot to all of us. I'll keep you all updated on his condition.

I visited Logan Monday and Tuesday, and he's alternatively scared and coping. He was lifeflighted from here in Steubenville, Ohio up to Akron Children's Hospital Monday afternoon, and while I thought he'd be scared, he said he actually enjoyed the flight and was talking with the pilots the whole time. Then yesterday afternoon, he was showing off all of the cool swag they gave him. We did a find the hidden picture thing in one of those Highlights magazine and he was watching some Spongebob and laughing like crazy.

At noon today he's having surgery to put some kind of tube in his chest that will be used for him chemotherapy, and it sounds like afterwords he'll be able to get out of the ICU. He's scared about the procedure, obviously, and I wish I could be there for him. I'll let you know how everything went when I know.

Sorry for rambling on so long, and thanks again for all the thoughts, prayers and well-wishing! Please keep your prayers coming. That, more than anything else, is the best thing you could possibly give Logan right now.

- Chuck

Re: Thoughts & Prayers for Lefty's Nephew

31 years ago last month I lost my mother to leukemia. The advances made since then are astounding, and I am positive that your nephew, with the help of all of our prayers and thoughts, will lick it. You will find that his courage and determination will grow as he becomes more and more knowledgeable about these procedures. God bless him and your family at this toughest of times.

Lefty: My thoughts are with you and your family. I'm so glad to hear that it's treatable. This past March, my cousin lost his 1 year old son to a genetic disease called Mytochondrial Myopathy ( A type of muscular dystrophy.) so I sort of know what you're going through. But hopefully he'll put it into remission for good.

Lefty, I will put Logan in my prayers and add him to my Sunday School list. We will bath him in prayers. May God have mercy and compassion on him and your family.
