Question New York Smothering A-Rod

is NY just too much for A-rod ?

all the hype and media coverage ?

seems most have blamed his hitting and fielding woes on a mental problem, could it be stress from the big Apple ?

didnt he play better in Texas and Seattle ?

Re: New York Smothering A-Rod

He's just having a bad year even though his numbers are pretty good. People expect the world from him and in New York, it's magnified. It's only up to him if he can survive such exposure, nobody else.

His statistics are maximized just because he is Alex Rodriguez. I admit that his numbers this year are decent, but nothing special. Also since he is coming off an MVP season, we would expect more from this slugger. His current statistics are nothing but average.

Give him a break, the Yankees are leading the AL East!

Re: New York Smothering A-Rod

Average, nothing! The dude had 10 strikeouts in 15 at-bats over the weekend. He's completely falling apart. I heard they moved him up to 2nd in the order, had him wear sunglasses for an at-bat... nothing's helping. I have never seen an athlete implode quite like this. Not even Knoblauch, because even when he was having his meltdown in the field, at least he could still hit. A-Rod's game is being sucked completely out of him - it's like some kind of talent vampire is draining him of his skills. At this point, I can't see where the guy will ever be able to rebound as a member of the Yankees.

Very good question Simple Simon. I never would have thought this about him when he came here but I have to admit this: It might be. He's definitely a head case. When things are going bad, it always seems to get worse before it gets better.

Re: New York Smothering A-Rod

I have to agree with you, NY media coverage seems too much for A-Rod. I'd like to say, "He just needs to get used to it", but he's already been here for almost THREE WHOLE YEARS!!!! Fans need to give him a hearty standing ovation when he first comes up to bat Tuesday night, and the media needs to decend on Giambi or Jeter or anyone else besides A-Rod. Give him a night off from all the stress, it might due him good.

Re: New York Smothering A-Rod

Fans dislike him because he happens to be the player who makes the most money. Stupid reason but they just don't seem to appreciate what they have. Soon, Cashman will have no other choice but to find somewhere to dump A-Rod and get little in return. Then will Yankee fans stop booing?

Re: New York Smothering A-Rod

What kind of statistics justify his contract? While he is making $22 M per year to strike out, I strike out in a company softball game and I get paid nothing at all.
