Re: Steinbrenner Murder/Suicide Watch

Wow, with that title...I flew to this thread as fast as possible...

My take: If the Yanks don't win the WS, then Steinbrenner kills Miguel Cairo.

Re: Steinbrenner Murder/Suicide Watch

I realize that it was meant as a joke but I must say that I disapprove of this threads title. I know Simon is a good guy but murder and suicide are nothing to joke about in text of getting attention. You obviously got MVB's attention and you got mine by thinking that Steinbrenner might have committed suicide. I realize im a joker on here and say a lot of crazy things but suicide is nothing to joke about. I ask if you could please change the title of this thread of perhaps delete it. Its possible that some people have had bad experiences with suicide and dont need that kind of title as a joke.

Well whadda ya know. Trashed being the voice of reason hehe, just kidding. I think you've got a good point. No sense in going down that path when the reality is pretty sensational.

So realistically, what does Steinbrenner do if this NYYankees team fails to make the playoffs? Staff changes, player changes, more trades, put the club up for sale... what's the likely outcome?

Re: Steinbrenner NYYankees High Expectations

Well put it like this...a lot of changes will be made. Now whether those changes will just be Abreu/Damon type moves or quite possibly a rebuilding or retooling with younger players (which I would like to see happen) we would have to see.

Re: Steinbrenner NYYankees High Expectations

No playoffs for this team, a distinct possibility still with the way Ortiz is carrying Boston around, would have to mean the Yankees trying to unload A-Rod, who will be the brunt of most of the blame if they fail. As that would only involve big market clubs, let me go out on a shaky limb here and predict a three way Dodgers-Yanks- Orioles trade that would send A-Rod to LA, Tejada to NY, and many Dodgers' pitching prospects to Baltimore. Save this thread for future reference when this happens, but if it doesn't, give me credit for trying.
Steinbrenner would then go after the biggest, safest big name free agent starter on the market, and a slugging first baseman, keeping Giambi at DH. Bye bye Sheffield for sure no matter what.

Re: Steinbrenner NYYankees High Expectations

What about an A-Rod for Ortiz trade? We send A-Rod to Boston (where he'd DH so Lowell could still play third) along with some prosepcts in exchange for Ortiz, who is our DH.

Re: Steinbrenner NYYankees High Expectations

the yanks will make the playoffs they have nine games witht he sox so that will decide who takes the east and wild card yet again. If the yanks dont win it all torree is gone and if they dont make the playoffs even tho this trade is prob the boss's fault cashman and torre are both gone. Its sad to say when you let cashman run the team all season he found players like arron guile, and brought up melky and got fasano, nothing exciting to write news articles about but they all kept them at the top of the playoff race what else do you want. The abreu deal doesnt hurt the team just seems irrational to were i thought the yankees were going, i figured the melk man was a lock in rf next year, now i dont even know if he is a lock on MLB roster. But a good thing to note is next year is abreus last year on the contract so please lets not keep him

well that's just crazy enough to work

im hoping Ortiz will be with the Sox until he retires

as to the topic, i would imagine the proverbial ax would fall on cashman and torre if the Yankees dont make the play-offs
