I'm not so sure I want Abreu over Sheffield.
Sheff's got power and he drives in runs and is clutch.
Sheffield will defnitely not be back next year.

Re: Yankees Trade For Abreu & Lidle

That's too bad because Sheff was one of the few in that lineup that was clutch in pressure situation. The same cannot be said for A-Rod or loser Giambi (ugh!).

Re: Yankees Trade For Abreu & Lidle

mouse i disagree with you alot id rather have giambi, he will get on base he can bring the yanks back into the game with one swing of the bat his obp is insane, and his glove is not what you make it out to be he isnt amazing out there but he does a servicable job. Phillips in my mind is a solid AAAA player nothing more nothing less, just like arron guile

IMO lidle was more needed then abreu, on the note buster olney or however you spell the tools last name wrote a pretty intresting article on sheffield and why he thinks the yankees will pick sheff's option of 13 mill up next year. http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog...uster#20060731

Id rather see melky play the field every day and abreu dh then see sheff and abreu splitting time in rf and at dh what you guys think

Re: Yankees Trade For Abreu & Lidle

Now when the score is 12-3 Abrieu can make it 12-5. I hope the prospects they delt werent that great. I believe Matt Smith got dealt right?

Re: Yankees Trade For Abreu & Lidle

ya but matt smith is 27 lefty specialist, im assuming if he was good at this he wouldnt be 27 and sitting in the yanks farm system with the problems they have here.

CJ Henry is a five tool shortstop as many scouts have written, but he isnt going to play ss,3b, or 2b any time soon, so the question shouldnt should he of been delt, but was this the right deal to add him in on, the main thing is the yanks kept what in their minds are there top 3 prospects which i guess is good

Youre right about Smith Merv. I didnt know he was that old. He was the one I was concerned about leaving. I suppose keeping in mind what you said this trade certainly couldnt HURT the Yankees. I guess it was a good deal.

Re: Yankees Trade For Abreu & Lidle

Uh! I just looked at his stats for the year and Abreu is batting .277 with 8 HRs and hes 33 years old. How is this some kind of upgrade? Im lost here.

Re: Yankees Trade For Abreu & Lidle

OBP my good man, money ball is starting to influence other gm's and ownerd and he does have a high obp which makes his stats remind you of having another giambi in the offense without all the hr number's

Re: Yankees Trade For Abreu & Lidle

mervinout: Giambi is as good on defense as the Statue of Liberty holding up a fishing net. If the ball happens to be hit into the net, then yeah you can say he'll catch it. Otherwise, it's another base hit and more baserunners to put pressure on the Yankee pitchers.

It's no coincidence that when the Yankees were apathetic and sloppy earlier in the season, they were struggling.
In came Phillips and Cabrera and now their fielding (outside of third base ) is slick.
They looked like an entirely different team. Younger, faster, smooth fielding and overall more energetic.
Now, because of pressure from "the top" (and you know who it is) and the ignorant fans, they are once again moving away from that very formula that gave them success these past two months. Knuckleheads.

With this free swinging, strike out artist, Craig Wilson they are probably going to sit Phillips more. That is unfortunate because they never really gave him much of a chance. The Yankees never have enough patience or confidence in their young players.

I hope they can at least move him to a team that will let him play and I can guarantee you that he will shine, more so that this Wilson dud (yes, DUD not dude) will ever do for you.

Re: Yankees Trade For Abreu & Lidle

Andy Phillips is a solid 4A player, solid defender yes, however how many times do you see giambi snake a ball out of the dirt from around the infield time in and time out, this goes back to when he had to learn it perfectly because of playing in oakland, and hell make more good plays the bad plays, and will make the plays in between look hard but make them, and id much rather see his bat with the previous stated already in a WS game rather Phillips. Phillips is the best cold streak hot streak ever i will say tho

And you got that from the 200+ intermittent at bats he's had so far? I'm sure the Minnesota Twins felt the same way about David Ortiz before they traded him to the Red Sox. Some people are just so good at evaluating potential...yeah right.

Well! That is just so amazing, I guess we've never seen anything like it before.

Oakland, always been known as the training ground for defensive wizardry. Indeed.

I would certainly hope so. Now, does he get an award for that?

Sorry, but I just couldn't stop laughing at this one.

And Giambi will get his at-bats, as a DH.
