Should the Yankees trade A-Rod?

Now, I know what you're all thinking- Alex Rodriguez has one bad week and MVB is already thinking about dumping him. But last night, the question about trading A-Rod was brought up on Baseball Tonight and discussed by Tim Kruk, Harold Renolds, and Karl Ravech. I don't know of you're all fans of the show, but I am...anyway...

Two of three anchors agreed that now is the time for A-Rod to be traded. They brought up the point that the New York fans have been booing him since the beginning of the season. New Yorkers booed him in the next at-bat after he had hit a walk-off homer against the Braves. The slump he is in, is prolonged, and he will not be able to snap out of it (especially in such a hostile enviroment).

So, what do you think? Should the Yankees trade one of baseball's greatest players ever? Where would they trade him and for who? Or should they stick with him, and hope Larry Bowa and Don Mattingly can help straighten him out? In my personal opinion, the Yankees should never trade A-Rod (until, you know- he's approaching retirement). He is an all-around great player- home run hitter, good base-runner, and until this week, a good defensive player. I think, he's the best player on the team, and it would be remarkably foolish to get rid of him.

Re: Should the Yankees trade A-Rod?

There's two fundamental issues here. First, its best for the Yankees if they don't trade him. He's an exceptional all-around talent and they'd be crazy to let a player of his ilk get away. Second, its best for A-Rod if he were to be traded. The majority of Yankee fans flat out don't like the guy, it seems. He's booed like crazy and it seems like he can do no right. If he were to go to anywhere else except maybe Boston, he wouldn't be under near as much pressure. A-Rod in Atlanta, L.A., Chicago, etc. would be an MVP candidate again. I'm not a Yankees fan so maybe I'm the wrong one to chime in here, but I'd like to see the kid traded for his own sake.

Re: Should the Yankees trade A-Rod?

I think that many/all true Yankee fans would hate to see him go, and would know that they were losing a great player. If there was only some way we could tell all the Yankee fans to stop booing him and give him a standing O every once and a while!

A-rod will always get booed if he doesn't win, he gets paid too much.

That's no reason to boo the guy though. All major leaguers make way too much dough.

It's not his fault the Yanks have been hurt by injuries and don't have good starting pitching. Albeit he can help out by not unwinding but still. Fans booing him mercilessly will not help anything.

Cool Re: Should the Yankees trade A-Rod?

First of all nobody could pay A-Rod except the Yankees. His salary makes it close to impossible to trade him. Second, who can you get back that would be eve close to equal value? It aint happening.

Equal value for A-rod is hard to come by, Maybe an upper tier Starter like Willis or someone of that caliber, but pitching is too hard to find now.

Re: Should the Yankees trade A-Rod?

What nobody has mentioned is that A-Rod has the power to veto any trade. He's not going anywhere.

I wouldn't say that... I would say, he will dictate where he will go...how about Atlanta?...that team needs a boost...

Re: Should the Yankees trade A-Rod?

How could the reputed "best player in baseball" let himself be run out of the game's biggest stage? Not going to happen.

Re: Should the Yankees trade A-Rod?

Some thoughtful comments in David Pinto's Baseball Musings Blog.
Quote:
New York fans need to realize that they own an all-time great here. He's going through a slump. But these are probably the same fans that would rather have Brosius and Martinez playing third and first, and the same type of fans who booed Carlos Beltran last year.
He goes on to note that Brooks Robinson says: "There's no way in the world that A-Rod is going to go anywhere. If they don't have A-Rod, they don't win."

That's the 1st time I've seen Pinto's blog. I've bookmarked it, check it out if you haven't.

Re: Should the Yankees trade A-Rod?

A-Rod isn't going to allow himself to be traded anywhere. His marketablity is at it's highest in NY and whatever happens, he's still one of the best in the game.

Not entirely true. He makes $25 million per season, right? Well I heard on ESPN that $10 million of that is being covered by Tom Hicks and the Texas Rangers. So any team that takes him currently would have to pay him $15 million per season. Now if the Yanks really wanted to deal him, if they agreed to eat $5 million, I can think of a ton of teams that could handle the $10 million per season for a player of A-Rod's ability.

But, most likely he isn't going anywhere. Shame, I think it'd be best for him to get the hell out of New York. No offense.

A-Rod makes too much money. And no way the Yankees are paying part of his salary so he can hit 40 homers for another team.
