Jeromy Burnitz trade rumors

The New York Post is reporting Pirates have been shopping outfielder Jeromy Burnitz to the Yankees. Please, please, please Brian Cashman, be stupid enough to take him off our hands. The guy has been a total bust in Pittsburgh, and earlier this week did little to endear himself to the local fans by saying telling the Post Gazette that he wanted to be dealt to a team that had "an obviously better opportunity to win".

Like he's been helping the Pirates attempts to win at all. It's like Charlie over at Bucs Dugout says: "Hear, hear, Jeromy. Now please go all Banzai on National League pitching for a month, so that the Pirates can trade your crappy contract." Or maybe we don't have to wait so long, if you guys in the Big Apple are willing to take him off our hands...

Re: Jeromy Burnitz trade rumors

I haven't see Burnitz's numbers this year but when he was in New York a few years ago, he seemed like a capable hitter. Not a great OFer by any stretch but he wasn't a problem either. He strikes out way too much and looks for the big homerun nearly every time up but when he's on, he's good.

I'd laugh if the Yanks acquired him though since that's the last kind of player they need.

If he's not 40 yet, the Yankees don't want him.

Burnitz is making $6.7 million on a one-year deal with the Bucs, and he's currently hitting .228 with 12 HR, 37 RBI, 28 runs, 57 strikeouts and an OBP of .277. I doubt the Yanks will take him, but hey - a guy can dream, can't he?

Re: Jeromy Burnitz trade rumors

The Yankees already made that deal a couple years ago- it was basically Ted Lilly for washed up Raul Mondesi. If they were to do something even remotely similar with Burnitz, it would be horrific.

Horrific? For you guys, maybe. But if we could dump Burnitz and get a half-decent pitcher out of the deal? That'd be sweet!

Cool Re: Jeromy Burnitz trade rumors

The Yanks can do a lot worse than Burnitz. But only if they don't give anything up like any kind of minor leaguer. Just make it a straight cash deal. What do they have to lose? Maybe batting between A-Rod and Posada might wake him up a little. Burnitz had a good year last year and Yankee Stadium is very friendly to left handed power hitters.

The Yankees are also interested in Aubrey Huff. He doesn't thrill me either.

Don't be silly.
Burnitz is a loser if I ever saw one.
He is exactly what you don't want--an overly aggressive, free swinger who swings at more air than ball.
Don't even touch him with a nine-foot pole.
