| A-Rod struggling I have followed baseball for a long, long time and I have never seen a guy that has this player's numbers all of a sudden look like a Little Leaguer at the plate and in the field. It is as if the clock struck midnight on him and he reverted back into a pumpkin. He has no clue at the plate, he can't hit any pitch; fastballs, sliders, hanging breaking pitches, you name it. You can predict how he is going to strike out now- swing and miss at a fastball, take a good pitch for strike two, swing and miss at a slider no matter where it is for strike three. It is so bad that you are happy for the guy when he just hits the ball. I know he will eventually emerge from this, but it is unbelievable to have to sit and watch.

Re: A-Rod struggling I don't think I have ever seen someone so great, struggles so much, so often. EVERYTIME he comes in a big situation, he strikes out. Personally, I rather him strike out looking so we can yell at the umps, but usually he's up their whiffing at a ball rolling in the dirt. It's like he closes his eyes and guesses. Everyone says "he's gonna break out" of the slump....it better be soon.

Re: A-Rod struggling It is a funny situation to compare Derek Jeter to Alex Rodriguez, who were two of the top shortstops for the past decade. Derek Jeter is the better fielder, but Alex Rodriguez is the better batter. Alex Rodriguez performs horrible in tight situations, while Derek Jeter is a clutch batter. Jeter is more of a contact-type of hitter, while Alex Rodriguez swings for power. Even though Alex Rodriguez may be the better player in this case, Derek Jeter isn't a bad option either. I don't think that Alex Rodriguez has ever really adjusted to the whole big Yankees-Boston rivalry, even though he may be a source of power for the Yankees. To tell you the truth, the Yankees are looking considerably strong without their key players who are suffering from various injuries.

Re: A-Rod struggling In today's game, Giambi was intentionally walked so A-Rod would come up with two on and only one out- of course, Alex didn't come through, but when before have we ever seen something like that happen ( an intentional walk to GET TO ALEX RODRIGUEZ)????

Re: A-Rod struggling You are never as bad as you look when you are going poorly and never as good as you look when you are on a roll. They were calling for Jeter to retire a couple years ago when he started out horribly. Rodriguez only needs to have a couple big hits to turn things around. NY fans want him to succeed desperately, and so does he, which is part of the problem. In Texas and Seattle, he had the luxury of a lot less media glare and talk show people to review and critique his every at bat. He needs to find a comfort zone and relax so that he isn't pressing in every big situation. That won't happen until he actually delivers in one.
