| Jeter hit again Just one time I would like to see the Yankee pitching staff retaliate when Derek Jeter gets hit. Yesterday, with the Orioles leading 10-0, Rodrigo Lopez took the opportunity to plunk Jeter on the hand. Jeter had entered the game hitting almost .500 against Lopez. He was not "diving" out over the plate in this instance, and I have no doubt that Lopez was sending him a message. Naturally, the Yankees did not send one back.

Re: Jeter hit again I discussed this in another thread about why David Ortiz shouldnt be thrown at just because he hits well. Pitched aggressively? Yes. But hit? No. Simply put because it takes stars like Jeter out of the game who people want to see and we get some minor league scrub or utility player in his place. Everyone seemed to be in favor of players getting hit saying "its the way the game is played" so now you can watch the game being played without the premier shortstop in baseball. Funny thing is when Manny Ramirez practically takes photographs at homeplate of his homers going out of the park everyone was saying that he SHOULDNT be hit. Friggin weird man.

Re: Jeter hit again Part of the game. No one cried when Bob Gibson was brushing people back off the plate in the 60's...no one dug in ethier...batter now feel its their god given right to hug the plate...plucking them every once in a while is part of the game... Heck, the Expos Ron hunt got hit 50 times in a season!...That's once every 3 games just about...talk about taking one for the team...Biggio has been hit over 180 times in his career...So was Minoso... So its a natural part of the game...as long as they don't go for the head...its okay.

Re: Jeter hit again Once again if thats your stance on it thats cool. Anyones opinion is no better or worse than mine, but if your favorite player gets hit on the elbow or wrist and misses time and you cant see him just stand by that opinion. Consistency is tough to find these days. I feel a pitcher shouldnt punish a batter just because he hits him well. In fact many of these pitchers simply pitch so crappy (especially set-up guys) that I think as soon as they take the mound they should apologize to the fans via live interview for being forced to watch them pitch and of course after they give up a torrent of runs. Why not remove some teams like the 2 teams in Florida, Kansas City (sorry Mr. Brett) and a few other teams who have no fan interest so the little talent they have can go to real teams with fans. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays have no buisness being in MLB. Their wasting teams time and players talent.

Re: Jeter hit again Trashed i wouldnt put the devil rays in that class anymore, they got a new owner recently and from what i see he has done a good job. He didnt make the mistake the last owner did and sign people like the crime dog, greg vaughn jose canseco. Juan guazman(the blue jays pitcher) i mean he had to pay those salarays off. He has kept the team young, cantu, lugo, kazmir, crawford, joey gathright, the **** head in AAA they have good young talent now and they look commited to keeping that talent. Sportsfan-the yanks were losing 10-2 at the time but same difference.
