Cool Farnsworth

Boy, this is starting to look like a bad signing. As a set up man for Mariano in the 8th, he walks way too many guys. Up 6-5, he walked the first guy, gave up a single and then walked the 3rd guy to load the bases. He's got electric stuff but he has no idea where the ball is going when it leaves his hand.

Re: Farnsworth

The kid that the Yankees could not hit, Zuyema or whatever his name was, now he had electric stuff. Farnsworth is garbage, given up on by the Tigers, and the Braves were glad to see him go. The Yankees are hoping Dotel can make it back to where he used to be, and even he is not reliable in a big spot. I remember when the Red Sox signed Clement from the Cubs. The phrase " electric stuff" was used ten times a day to describe him. Now they would ship him to China in a rowboat if they could.

Cool Re: Farnsworth

Now I really appreciate how great Jeff Nelson and Mike Stanton were during the Yankees championship run.

Re: Farnsworth

Oh, come on now!

When Stanton first came to the Yankees ('97-'9, he wasn't great at all. He pitched 79 innings, giving up 71 hits, 51 runs (ERA of 5.47), 26 BB, and 13 home runs! Thirteen homers from a relief pitcher! He stunk! But he settled down and became dominant.

Jeff Nelson went through the same things, with an ERA higher then Farnsworth's in his first season as a Yankee.

Farnsworth still has a 2 to 1 strikeout to walk ratio. He got himself into a horrible mess last night, and could have REALLY caved in. But he was able to retire the Tigers without giving up the lead run.

Re: Farnsworth

Farnsworth is even worse than garbage. Just came in and walked Marcus Thames, who is barely a major league caliber player, and then gave up three hits in a row. He was closing the game because Mariano Rivera "tweaked" his back putting on his shoes. give me a break. If I never see Farnsworth on the mound again it would be too soon. He may be the biggest, most overrated bum I have seen in pinstripes.

Re: Farnsworth

Yeah, it's getting REALLY hard to defend him... But when the Yanks failed to score in the seventh and eighth inning, I knew the Tigers had won. Farnsowrth just isn't good under pressure situations. But... why didn't Torre put Villone in to pitch? He's been incredible of late, and had yesterday off!?!?!

Re: Farnsworth

Would you agree that New York is the wrong town to be in if you wilt under pressure? Torre should have left proctor in, he was lights out and wasn't going to pitch today anyways because he had gone two innings. It would have been nice to sweep Detroit, who by the way are the same rotten team they have been, just with a better manager.

Cool Re: Farnsworth

Next time Torre probably will leave Proctor in. That's a bad loss.

Re: Farnsworth

Farnsworth is another Braves reject like the magnificent Jaret Wright. Call up minor league pitchers to get experience cuz if Farnsworth is gonna close your games then your season has already been closed.

Cool Re: Farnsworth

Yesterday, I was at the Yankee-Tiger game and Farnsworth stood there after BP and signed autographs including penning one to my 10 year old daughter. On the Tigers side, their first round draft pick who's up - LHP Andrew Miller frrom North Carolina, slapped her 5 at least.

Little things like that can go a long way in fans' minds. Going forward, as a Yankee fan, I won't be quite so hard on Farnsworth. Maybe Barry Bonds could learn a lesson from all this. If you're fan friendly, people will forgive and overlook a lot of stuff.
