Jeter gets number 2,000 Jeter reaches 2,000 hits Jeter reaches 2,000 hits NEW YORK (AP) -- Derek Jeter got his 2,000th career hit Friday night, becoming the eighth player in New York Yankees history to reach the milestone. Jeter beat out a roller in front of home plate in the fourth inning against the Kansas City Royals and advanced to second when catcher Paul Bako threw the ball away for an error. Wow, already...2,000 hits...Didn't realize he guy has had four 200 hit seasons as well as 3 other seasons of 190 or better....shoe in for 3,000 at this pace...his 1196 runs are not shabby either...outside shot at 2,000 runs I would say...He is all of 31+ years old (June 26).

Re: Jeter gets number 2,000 There is no doubt that Derek Jeter is a Hall of Famer, and has a great chance to be the first Yankee to 3,000 hits. That being said, there is no worse official scorer than the one the New York Yankees have. That was not a hit, it was a throwing error! Anybody who saw that play knows that an accurate throw would have had Jeter at first. I cannot believe some of the decisions I have seen handed down on hits and errors this year, especially at Yankee games.

Re: Jeter gets number 2,000 Derek Jeter is a great person and a great baseball player, he plays the game the way it's supposed to be played always hustling and playing great defense. Like the time he ran into the stands for a foul ball and caught it, giving up his body. He could have really gotten hurt.I'm glad that he has 2,000 hits & i hope he gets 2,000 more and makes the hall of fame. ( I didn't know there never was a Yankee without 3,000 hits )

Re: Jeter gets number 2,000 Yeah, I can't believe no Yankee has 3,000 hits?!?! I got to go to the Hall of Fame last week and I was really surprised how few players actually were in the hall. Many stars didn't (or haven't yet) made it... but if Jeter gets 3,000 hits (with probably 2,500 runs) plus his gold glove awards...he'll definitely be inducted.

Yep, I was suprised as well. Maybe on such a great franchise, long careers with the team are the expection instead of the rule....Joltin Joe played 13 years and had 2,214...he lost 3 years to the war which would have gotten him another 500 hits...and had too many years of playing less than a full scheduled... Mantle's knees kept him at 2415, retiring him at age 36...a Manlte with good knees would have gotten there. Ruth got to 2,873 but time in Boston and time as a pitcher did him in. Earle Combs part of the !927 yankees had three 200 hit years but played only 12 seasons for a total of 1866. Mattingly's back kept him at 2153 over 14 seasons...despite three straight 200 hit years... Bobby Richardson had 1432 before calling it quit at the age of 30. And so on... |
