| Re: Yankees sign Billy Crystal Just another example of hollywood weiseling into some place where they don't belong just like they do in the NFL and NASCAR. Why can't they just enjoy the game and root for thier team like everyone else. It's making MLB a joke... I don't care if it's spring training or for charity or what ever. I hope someone throws a high heater right under his big nose! |

| Re: Yankees sign Billy Crystal MyFoxTampaBay Reports TAMPA – How does Billy Crystal look in a Yankees uniform? Mahvelous. The actor-comedian emerged from the New York Yankees dugout at Legends Field in Tampa on Wednesday morning wearing a nervous smile with his pinstripes. Two days earlier, the team announced they were signing Crystal to a one-day contract, and inviting him to play in a spring training game on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. • Gallery: Billy Crystal Joins the Yankees (MyFoxTampaBay) For Crystal, it was a call from the big leagues he had been waiting decades for. "I don't even know what to say," Crystal told a crowd of reporters before the team's workout. "It's just the most awesome feeling in the world that things can happen. Dreams can come true." Though Crystal will turn 60 on Friday, you'd never know it by checking out his swing. After manager Joe Girardi presented him with the number 60 jersey - in honor of his upcoming birthday - he stretched and took batting practice alongside shortstop Derek Jeter. The actor's debut on the field brought out plenty of media. Reporters and photographers from ET, TV Guide, and the Insider were among those who attended the workout, along with a crew from the Late Show with David Letterman. Crystal said he's been working out for weeks to get ready for his big day, but he admits being so nervous he didn't sleep a wink on Tuesday night - and he expects more of the same before the game on Thursday. "I don't get sleep any night," Crystal joked. "I've been up since 1948." Crystal says he's just hoping to have a good time, and he'll be satisfied how ever he plays because it's all about fun. But what does his coach expect? "I want to see him get a base hit, steal a base, and score a run. That's the idea, scoring runs," said Girardi. "I want to see him score a run tomorrow." Girardi hasn't said what position Crystal will play, although there's speculation it could be second base since he has experience there. On Wednesday, several reporters asked Jeter whether he was worried about his job security now that Crystal is on the roster. "He's 60, so no," Jeter joked. Crystal will take the field Thursday at Legends Field in front of what is expected to be a sold-out crowd. He says overall, he's not really worried about what kind of pitching he'll see from the Pirates. "They have to do what they have to do. There's a new Lexus in the parking lot- I'll just say that," he said. MyFox Birmingham | Billy Crystal Makes His Yankees Debut
