Although he would never come out and admit it is one of his goals, 3,000 hits has to be on Derek Jeter's mind. At 2,356 and only 33 years old, Jeter has a chance to be the only player to garner 3,000 hits as a Yankee only. Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, and DiMaggio all fell short for various reasons. Do you think Jeter,a lifetime .317 hitter, can make it?

i think he can make it, i mean in a time when A-Rod is taking all the attention, people sometimes prepare less for Jeter hence the reason why teams are more likely to walk A-Rod as opposed to Jeter...i think as long as A-Rod is playing for the Yankees alongside him, Jeter will get 3,000 hits no problem

That's what, just four more seasons of 150 hits, right? I don't see Jeter having any trouble doing that at all.

Barring an injury he'll make it without a doubt. But it's not the amount of hits that makes him a great player. It's WHEN he gets the hits and make the plays that makes him great.

That one play where he threw backhand to Posada in the playoffs might have been the best play I've ever seen.

That is the play that made me a fan. I never saw anything like it. He always seems to get a hit just when they need it. He will have no problem getting 3000 hits on his way to the HOF.

Yeah, I think he will pull a Paul Molitor and become a graceful hitter when he is past the point of being a good SS. He will make it, barring injury.

Same here, guys. That was the most heads-up play I've EVER seen a baseball player make. To see that the throw from the outfield was going to miss, to be able to judge where it would wind up, and to hustle over there and make the play... unbelievable.
