Re: Matsui out awhile Just when it looked like this team was turning the corner they meet up with Boston. They turned a bum like Mark Loretta into Paul Molitor, went through their whole bullpen before they realized that none of them can get a big out this year, and watched Johnny Damon hit like the village idiot. Bernie Williams, I am begging you to retire before you lose ALL of your dignity. The rest of baseball bombs Tim Wakefield, the Yankees bow before him. And why in the world is Miguel Cairo on any major league roster? Four strikeouts and dropped a throw that lost the game. This after he left how many men on base in the Yankees- Red Sox debacle of 2004, when he came up with about a dozen chances to actually win the game for New York. What would possess Joe Torre to trot this guy out to play first in a big series? As bad as Andy Phillips can be, he will at least make that play at first on Jeter's throw.

Re: Matsui out awhile I totally agree with you, Phillips could have made that play. I've even seen Giambi make the play... I felt sorry for Cairo, what a horrible day. Brian Cashman just said that Matsui might be out for the rest of the season... As disappointing as that all is, I hope the Yankees DON'T go out and get a new outfielder like they say they might ( Shannon Stewart, Jacques Jones). I hope the Yanks let Crosby play left and Cabrera play right. Why? A) It'll give these younger players (and more ignored players) a chance to shine. B) Crosby is the best defensive outfielder we have (1.000 fielding percentage), and Cabrera (when he isn't nervous as heck) will be a great right fielder ( with all that speed he has). C) They both have speed, and what they don't do power-wise, they can do base-wise (stealing bases, moving over on fly balls, etc..) which Sheff and Matsui couldn't do. They can get on, and get into scoring position for the other bats. D) As much as most people have ridiculed the two, they aren't that bad offensively. Cabrera has played one game and went 2 for 3. Crosby is batting .259 ( compared to Matsui's .261, Williams .264, and Rodriguez's .269). Crosby has an on-base percentage of .355. Give Crosby and Cabrera a chance, and I think it'll work out. (If not, then the Yanks can go get someone else).

Re: Matsui out awhile With Matsui and Shef out for the forseeable future, the local talk in NYC is surrounding on who they will go out and trade for. I don't think there's a doubt they will look to acquire a name through a trade.

Re: Matsui out awhile The Yankee mentality won't allow them not to go out and get someone, but someone please tell me, who do they have that is of any value to trade. Cetainly nobody in their minor league system unless it is that pitcher Hughes. Now, that being said, I know Ichiro hates playing for Hargrove in Seattle, and the Mariners infatuation with him may be wearing off. How's that for the start of a good trade rumor?

Re: Matsui out awhile I would love to see Ken Griffey Jr. in pinstripes. Torii Hunter is rebounding from a horrible start. Ichiro Suzuki is a solid contact hitter and I have mixed opinions about Bobby Abreu. It would take a lot to get Soriano in New York, again.
