Cool Big Unit fails again

Let's face it. Based on what Randy Johnson was brought here to do, which is win big games and be dominant in the others, he has been an utter failure.

Utter failure meaning he is still better than 20 possible other options the Yankees might have?...that type of utter failure?...Old pitcher struggle early sometimes...I remember Seaver when he started to slow down...he got off to a horid start in 1978...the settled in to be just fine...Randy might need to adjust a bit...

I dont think the Yanks have 20 other options all due respect Gotham. I think they only have one and its called rebuilding. Clearly they cant compete in the AL with far superior teams like the Angels and Red Sox. Build a young team around players such as A-Rod, Jeter, Cano, Farnsworth, etc. The Yankees are simply too old to be a contender. 2006 ended for them before it really began with guys like Randy Johnson pitching and Bernie Williams (no matter his role) hitting.

Bishop my man...it was sarcasm...but hey, its okay man...no harm no foul...the gist was that even a bad Randy is better than the options they have....

Re: Big Unit fails again

Heck, I could have pitched better then Johson last night. Gah! I can not stand the walks!!!! I'd rather see Johnson give up towering home runs, then walks, because at least he'd be throwing strikes!!!

Note: Johnson is NOT an utter failure, he does have 5 wins which is tied for the most wins in the majors this season. ( He also lowered his ERA last night)

Re: Big Unit fails again

He wasn't helped by Big Game Alex, who committed two errors and hit like it was the playoffs. But Johnson does not trust his fastball. He is throwing 3-2 sliders to bums like Dustin Mohr and Alex Gonzalez. His location is awful and so is he. He is 5-3 on the strength of the best run support in the majors when he pitches. Somebody should hit some pop flies to Melky Cabrera before the game. The Yankees cannot rebuild from within because their minor league system is devoid of talent. And Aaron Small must have made a deal with the devil last year to go 10-0; he might go 0-10 this year if he gets enough opportunities. Imagine also if Bernie had hit the umpire with his batting helmut as he walked away, like Delmon Young hit the ump with his bat.

Utter failure in that he was brought here to be a stopper-like Schilling is for the Sox. And he's been anything but that. When you're given a 2-0 lead against your arch rivals, shut the other team down. His ERA is over 5. His age is no excuse since the year before he came here he was still dominant.

Ha! Its true their farm system is devoid of even a good batboy and why is it every Yankee castoff (Javier Vasquez, Jose Contreras, etc.) becomes Cy Young on some other team while were stuck with a has been?

Re: Big Unit fails again

Watching Contreras blossom in Chicago really gets my goat. Remember how awful he was with us, especially against Boston? The only consolation is knowing that he was never going to be successful under the media glare in New York. Same with Vasquez, who really stunk as a Yankee.
Johnson was throwing 98 when he signed with us from Arizona; now he tops out around 92. It would seem that only Nolan Ryan could defy time and keep his velocity till the end.

If I'm a Yankee fan, I'm praying the Big Ugly is secretly hurt. 'Cause if he's not, yikes!

A million bucks says Georgie has been on the phone with Clemens' people all day long. He's got to feel pretty desperate for pitching at this point.

Re: Big Unit fails again

I heard from RealGm.Com that the Yankees were looking into Clemens.

"The Big Unit" has been suffering from back problems all season long. Fortunately, they are not too serious to put him on the DL. Do you think he will finish his career as a relief pitcher?

The Yankees are so bad that if the National League had a DH id be watching a younger, better team with athletes like Carlos Beltran, David Wright and Pedro Martinez. Not clowns like Melky Cabrerra, Bernie Williams and Tanyon Sturtze. Hey life is too short not to be a frontrunner. The Yankees suck and we all know it. Its 3-1 Red Sox and you KNOW the Yanks aint coming back. The Yankees are simply scared of the Sox and they are terrified of Schilling!

If the Yankees season depends on the signing of 44 year old Roger Clemens then its time to rebuild. Trade all the Johnsons and Giambis players to teams like the Devil Rays (while paying most of their salaries of course, im serious) for some great prospects. Not only will it be good for baseball revitalizing these crappy franchises like KC, TB and Minnesota with some stars for their fans to populate the park for but its what the Yanks HAVE TO DO. Swallow their pride and their salaries and build a future. Bernie Williams and Randy Johnson aint gonna win you a pennant guys.

Spoke too soon, huh?

Yankees win 7 to 3!!! Schilling gets the loss.... Mussina gets the win....

Jason Giambi, Alex Rodriguez, and Jorge Posada crushed home runs all off of Schilling.

Schilling gets the loss....

The Yankee bullpen was great, going 2 and a third innings without giving up a single hit.

Schilling took the loss....

Jeter made a great play, the Yanks were pretty sound defensively.... even Melky Cabrera played well in right field....

Schilling took the loss...

Giambi has homered in two straight games... He's now second in the league in RBIs...

Schilling took the loss...

Bernie Williams had a hit (a double), drove in a run and scored a run....

Schilling took the loss...

Even Johnny Damon got a hit and drove in a run against his old team...

Schilling took the loss...
