The Associated Press is reporting that the New York Yankees set a new Major League Baseball payroll record in 2007 - $218.3 million, or nearly $70 million more than the second-ranked and eventual World Series champion Boston Red Sox. This was the ninth straight season in which the Yanks have led the league in this category. Surprisingly, their payroll is expected to decrease in 2008. As it stands right now, New York has only committed just over $198 million to their 40-man roster.
