Clemens Should Face Congress

There's only one way for Roger Clemens to clear his name, one exit strategy that will get him the "benefit of the doubt" for which he yearns.

Clemens needs to go in front of Congress next month and repeat, under oath, the exact words his agent Randy Hendricks released yesterday under the seven-time Cy Young Award winner's name. Otherwise, he's toast.

Is this fair? Nope, but we're not here today to rail against the many hypocrisies to have surfaced from the Mitchell Report. Well, maybe we'll do that a little bit, further down in the column. Right now, this is about reality. About Clemens throwing a Hail Mary pass to salvage his rapidly deteriorating reputation in the court of public opinion.
If Clemens is innocent, he should tell Congress -- Newsday.com

Even that wouldn't settle anything. Rafael Palmeiro anyone?

Re: Clemens Should Face Congress

It is a shame that his career is going to be remember like this now instead of the dominant pitcher that he was.

Re: Clemens Should Face Congress

If I was Clemens I wouldn't do crap...he doesn't owe anyone anything...if they think he is guilty...suspend him...if not, get off his freakin case...I would issue a small, clear statement, "I think Congress has better things to worry about then having me tell my side of the story -thank you and good night."

Yep, thats why I hope they don't dig back too far.

I don't need my memories of Nolan Ryan, Dale Murphy or Roberto Clemente being tarnished, thank you very much.

Different era...but to hear Rose tell it, they took a lot of green pills back then to "stay up"...so you never know.

It's his own fault for taking the steroids.

Good luck with that one. If there is some dirt out there that the media can dig into, you can bet they will. I have faith in them for that.

Why do they need to dig it out? They can get three no bodies together with an ax to grind and call it a story.

All we have is one guy saying he gave him some shots. Do you think that is enough to label him a cheater his whole career? I don't. How do we know this guy doesn't hold some sort of grudge against Clemens and just threw his name in.
