It certainly doesn't help. But there were different accusations.

Pettite was accused of using HGH once or twice while injured in 2002.

Clemens is accused of using steroids in 1998, 2000 and 2001.

Clemens can't exactly come out and admit to only trying steroids, like Pettite did with HGH. Plus, Clemens has a lot more to lose by admission of guilt than Pettite does.

Seems to have worked for him...still...what's the point of a freakin report...seem like a PR stunt...doing a half-heart report and then handing it to the media before you even address the issue..,that's more messed up then Clemens doing it...

I could almost here the following exchange:

Mitchell: Well, Mr. Selig we have some really big, big names...

Selig: Hmm...I told George we keep A-Rod's name out of the list...but I think we are okay offering Clemens as a counter to those who say we are going after Barry.

Mitchell: What do you want me to do with the other big names on the list...

What PR stunt though? He gave plenty of solid recommendations to the sport to try and curtail rampant drug use.

I doubt Selig would waste tens of millions of dollars for something that he didn't feel was necessary.
