Yankees Re-Sign Mariano Rivera

It's all but officially official (), Mariano Rivera will sign a three-year deal worth $45 million to return to the Bronx.

Reportedly, Mo wanted a fourth year but the Yankees wouldn't budge. "ESPN.com's Buster Olney first reported that Rivera accepted the offer Monday night. The deal might not be announced until next week, as Rivera still must pass a physical."

As Newsday points out, a couple of weeks back it looked as if the Yankees could realistically lose Jorge Posada, Alex Rodriguez and Rivera. Today, it looks as if all three will be back for 2008 and beyond.

There was zero chance that New York would lose Posada and Rivera. Now that they have A-Rod back, they need to swing a deal for Johan Santana.

Okay, so they resigned Rivera. But 3 years, $45 million? Wow, I'm stunned. That seems like an awful lot to give to an aging closer.

So what happened to all that loyalty to Torre? I guess money really does rule the world of Baseball.

He's still one of the best closers in the game. They had to come up with the bucks for fear he would sign elsewhere.

Where have you been for the past 20 years ??? Loyalty goes as far as the dollar goes. Simple as that.

Do you honestly think anyone but the Yankees would've given a deal that lucrative? I sure don't - $10 mill a year, tops.
