Yanks target Beltre, Lowell and Cabrera?

The Yankees have targeted free agent Mike Lowell and, as trade possibilities, Seattle's Adrian Beltre and Florida's Miguel Cabrera. St. Louis' Scott Rolen is a dark-horse candidate. -- Newsday

Cool Re: Yanks target Beltre, Lowell and Cabrera?

1) Rolen? No way. He's too chronically injured.

2) Lowell? I wouldn't sign him. Look at his split stats.

At Fenway, .373, 14 HRS 73 RBI's, .575 slugging
Away: .276, 7HR's, 47 RBI's, .428 slugging

3) Cabrera: Forget it, the Marlins want a young arm. Not worth it.

4) Beltre: Eh, possibly.

5) The guy I would try to get if he's healthy is Joe Crede. He had a down year last year because he was hurt and the Sox want to deal him in the worst way, so you wouldn't have to give up too much.

If you can get a hitter like Cabrera, you have to listen to whatever the Marlins want. He is the only player available that could come close to filling the hole A-Rod leaves in the regular season. If the Yanks could get him, I would whiz down my leg.

Hmm... I guess it comes down to, is Cabrera worth, say, Hughes or Chamberlain? I say keep the pitchers, find the hitting elsewhere.

Chanberlain is the only untouchable in my opinion. It's not like Kennedy or Hughes throw 97 mph.

I wouldn't trade any of those 3 for Cabrera. How have the Yankees done since they've started acquiring all this hitting?

They had their best teams when Scott Broscious was their 3rd baseman. Those teams were built on pitching and role players.

You don't trade young pitching for hitting, period. Plus Cabrera is an awful fielder.

Absolutely agree with this 100%. Pitching and defense is what wins championships. Clutch hitting just happens; you can't plan for it.

ESPN has been saying that the Dodgers will be actively pursuing Cabrera.
