Word has come out that starting pitcher Andy Pettite has declined his $16 million option with the New York Yankees for 2008. Meaning, he's a clear free-agent now and can sign with anyone.
He still has yet to decide whether he wants to return in 2008. He still hasn't said whether or not if he will. He could still return to the Yanks.
Wow. He originally said he either would play with the Yankees or retire.
Quote:
"Andy reiterated that he wants to be a Yankee or retire," Cashman said last night at the GM Meetings. "He's just not ready to make a decision yet."
"If Andy decides to play, I am confident we can reach an agreement with the Yankees within 24 hours," Pettitte's agent, Randy Hendricks, told the AP. "The only options, as Andy has stated, are the Yankees or retirement. He appreciates the Yankees' willingness to give him the time he feels he needs. I do not expect him to make a decision for quite some time."
