Yankees make offer to Girardi

The Yankees have made an offer to Joe Girardi to be their next manager and he is expected to accept that offer as reported by ESPN.com

ESPN - Yankees officially offer skipper job to Girardi - MLB

Re: Yankees make offer to Girardi

If you told me a week ago the Yankees would hire Girardi, I would have said you were nuts. Only because of the Mattingly factor. How he handles losing out on this job will be quite interesting.

Girardi is a good manager, but how will he handle the vets on the Yanks?

That was the concern of some of the baseball guys on ESPN because Girardi has played with some of the vets. They all felt that Mattingly would handle them better and they would work with him better.

Mattingly's already told them point blank that we will not accept a job on Girardi's staff, so unless they offer him a minor league managerial job, I'm guessing he's going to be parting ways with the Yankees, at least for a while.

That makes me hate George Steinbrenner even more. It's all about what have you done for me lately. It would be a shame to never see Don in those stripes again.

****Woo-Hoo, my 1000th post**** I have a ways to catch up with Lefty though!

Re: Yankees make offer to Girardi

That's obvious that Mattingly is done with the Yankees but how will his relationship with the organization be? Will he hold a grudge or something like that? Will he let bygones be bygones?

Amazing that the Yankees have sent both Joe Torre and Don Mattingly (along with Ron Guidry) packing in a matter of three weeks.
