Hank Steinbrenner admitted yesterday that there is a "slight favorite" in the Yankees' managerial search. Today, that favorite gets his turn to impress the Bombers and stake his claim to Joe Torre's old job. Don Mattingly will be the second candidate to interview, following Joe Girardi, who spent six hours at the Yankees' Tampa complex yesterday. Tony Pena is set to come in tomorrow, and while team officials say there will likely be four or five candidates, there are no others currently lined up to meet with the club. Mattingly, who served on Torre's coaching staff for the past four years, is considered to have the inside track, but there are those inside the front office who are pushing for Girardi.
