Yankees Interested in Rowand?

The Yankees may pursue Aaron Rowand if they can move Melky Cabrera in a deal for Johan Santana.

That's a rumor posed by MLB Trade Rumors this morning.

Also of interest, according to their source, the Yankees plan on offering big deals to Jorge Posada and Mariano Rivera to keep the two free-agents.

I can see it happening. They've been looking to upgrade centerfield for a while now, haven't they?

I would go after Rowand even if they didn't get rid of Cabrera. He would be an upgrade.

They would have to give up a lot more than just Melky for Santana. I would have to have at least Hughes with him.

The full trade rumor was posted here in the Twins forum. It was Melky Cabrera, Ian Kennedy and Chien Ming Wang.

I saw this on another post....just didn't get back here before you. I like this possibility. Wang is a proven winner, but can he do it without the high powered Yankee offense. Cabrera could be a good replacement when the Twins lose Hunter. Kennedy has a really good arm if he is as good as he showed this year. I would think very hard about this...maybe stall a little to see if I could steal another prospect.

Cool Re: Yankees Interested in Rowand?

The only problem is that unless the Yankees trade Phil Hughes, they're not getting Santana. And since I'm pretty sure they're not parting with Hughes, it's a moot point.

Re: Yankees Interested in Rowand?

I would include Hughes in the deal if that what it takes in a NY minute, as long as you can immediately sign Santana to a deal.
