Torre said the one year offer with incentives was an insult.

Does seem like he didn't have a ton of support from the top from the way he answered some questions.

Yep, I agree. Give him credit for being able to read between the lines on this. They clearly don't really want him, or else they'd committ to him.

Not real sure there were any lines to read between. It seemed abundantly clear that they no longer were interested in his services. The innocent statement during the playoffs should have stirred some ideas of job loss in the near future.

It is to bad but really ... at age 67 he needs no money and needs the Steinbrenner crap even less. Take the day off and when the sun comes up tomorrow, you'll feel great about yourself.

There was some talk that people within the top Yankee brass hooked Ian O'Connor up with Steinbrenner (the reporter who reached him for the story) and got the story about firing Joe if the team lost. Randy Levine (Yankee President who reportedly never liked Joe) and O'Connor have denied the talk.

All I can say is the last time Yankees fans and the media was so outraged was when Buck Showalter got fired in 1995 and they hired a guy named Joe Torre. How did that work out?
