| Re: New Yankee Manager Search I'd be surprised if they get Girardi. His style is great with the young inexperienced players. I know the Yanks have had some rookies and whatnot, but they're still a veteran team. I don't think his style would work with them. |

| Re: New Yankee Manager Search Joe Girardi interviewed yesterday, and according to the Associated Press, "Yankees bench coach Don Mattingly, scheduled to be interviewed Tuesday, is considered the favorite. New York first base coach Tony Pena is slated for a Wednesday interview... Steinbrenner said one or two others will be asked to interview -- but former New York Mets and Texas Rangers manager Bobby Valentine isn't on the list." | Re: New Yankee Manager Search I think the Yankees have made it quite clear that the team needs to at least win one playoff series, or else the season's a disappointment. Would you want a job with that much pressure, those kind of high expectations? I sure wouldn't. |

| Even if the Yankees don't win the first round, they won't fire Mattingly. If you think there was fans backlash after Torre, it will be worse with Donnie Baseball. They'll give him more rope because it's his first year. Mattingly HAS to accept the job because this is the only managerial job he can get. No other team would hire him. I think he'll do fine. Managing baseball is not brain surgery. And their payroll almost guarantees a postseason berth |

If Mattingly were to not lead the team to the post-season or lose a first round series, I can just hear all the Yankee fans begin to call for his head (even though he's beloved). |

| Re: New Yankee Manager Search Girardi is a better choice by Yankee brass, because if he doesn't deliver he can be fired with much less of a backlash, plus he is a good manager from what I have seen. He played with all of the long time veterans as well on those championship clubs.
