That may be okay in Atlanta, or anywhere else. But not in the Bronx.

Thank you for your 12 years, Joe. You're a HOF fame manager and a class act but its time to get someone else.
I hope you guys get your new manager. You will regret it very soon. Torre had the temperament to put up with your idiotic owner and that is what has allowed him to stay so long.
You guys are like the Notre Dame of MLB, the most overrated club in Major League Baseball!

Re: Should Joe Torre Be Fired?

Steinbrenner wants more one title before he shuffles off this mortal coil and I believe he honestly doesn't think Torre can deliver it at this point in his career. If the Yankees could fire Casey Stengel, they can certainly get rid of Joe Torre. Both were considered jokes as managers before coming to New York, and both left as Hall of Famers, Torre having had the superior career as a player. Let's face it, he should have been gone in 2004 after that Red Sox debacle. The old Steinbrenner would have canned him right then. He is a great handler of the media and of egos, but as a strategical manager, he is far down the list. I want to see Joe Girardi in the dugout next year.

Re: Should Joe Torre Be Fired?

i heard 2 things on ESPN radio yesterday that really made sense to me

1. Torre was faced with a goal every year as manager .... win it all ...... he hasnt fallen well short of that for 7 years ...... is it acceptable in any job to fall so short for 7 years ?

2. Maybe Joe is a little too comfortable with the players at this point ... a little more friend then manager

The problem with that is a manager might affect at best 10-15 games a year...if that...so to make that the goal and pay him less than most players is to be short sighted about what their job really is...

Re: Should Joe Torre Be Fired?

Girardi won't be coming to the Yankees. Him coaching a generally veteran team, that spells for disaster.

The only two guys I could see taking over: LaRussa or Piniella.

Well, when you listen to Jeter, Damon, et. al. talk, I can believe it. But then, they're all veterans. It's not like you can bring in a fire and brimstone type of guy and expect them to respond to it. So what do you do? A new voice isn't the answer unless you clean out the clubhouse too.
