Yankees Can't Deal With Insects

The Yanks gave up a one run lead in the eighth inning, thanks in some part to massive amounts of flying insects in the infield. In particular, the bunch hovering around Joba Chamberlain. He threw two wild pitches, one of which let Grady Sizemore score the tying run.

It's 1-1 in the 8th with Joba trying to get out of the inning.

If the Indians win this one, those bugs deserve an assist.

Re: Yankees Can't Deal With Insects

Yankees lost because their vaunted offense managed three hits. I would trade ten A-Frauds for one Brosious. Pettitte came up big, so did Melky with a homer and a good throw, and Rivera. Posada is the worst defensive catcher ever as far as actually CATCHING the ball.Everything Rodriguez accomplished this year goes right out the window as far as I am concerned if this 0 for 18 drought continues in hte post-season. I also never want to see Damon or Matsui play again, ever. Visciano is garbage, I believe that was the title of one of my posts from this May. Has anything changed?

Indians win 2-1 in 11 innings. Assuming the Tribe wins out, those bugs will be named ALDS MVPs.

The AP called them "sacrifice flies" and asked, "Where's the Sultan of Swat when you need him?"

Cool Re: Yankees Can't Deal With Insects

1) I'm not into making excuses but those bugs absolutely screwed Chamberlain up? They were in his mouth for god sakes.

2) Should the Yankees win game 3, they have to go with Wang in game 4 and Pettite in game 5, both on short rest. Mussina and Hughes should be ready in the pen.

3) This is getting too funny with A-Rod.

Re: Yankees Can't Deal With Insects

A-Rod has a mental block or something, the guy just hasn't hit as a Yankee in the playoffs. It's tough to watch because you know he's the best in the game but he just can't get it done.

It was rough watching Joba out there with the bugs struggle and then Carmona go back out there and not be phased.

Re: Yankees Can't Deal With Insects

A couple of quotes from Joba, he didn't blame the bugs...from the Daily News

"I wasn't the only person that had to deal with it and they did fine," said Chamberlain, not wanting to use the bugs as an excuse. "It was disappointing to let the guys down after what they went through and the great baseball they played."

Re: Yankees Can't Deal With Insects

The great baseball they played includes 8 hits in about 20 innings. A mental block is a nice name for CHOKING! Do Boston fans say that Bill Buckner had a mental block as the ball was rolling towards him. If he keeps this up, they won't sign him. Then we have to wait just one more year before we win again, as Giambi's contract will run out after 2008. Becasue we will never win with these two on the team, it's just etched in stone somewhere among the baseball gods.

Re: Yankees Can't Deal With Insects

that pissed me off. i mean the indians must be used to playing in the bugs. a team from new york fricking city isn't going to be used to it... maybe they put something in the grass to attract them... who knows. all i know is that was bullcrap. should've been a bug delay or postponed due to insects... just get us the hell out there for crying out loud!
