Cool Yankees Pitching

As a Yankee fan, I'm very worried about the starting pitching. Johnson is not even close to the lights out pitcher he once was. Wong has been so-so. He keeps giving up leads. Mussina's been very good but how long will that last? Chacon is off to a slow start - although he's pitching well today. Jarred Wright & pavano are still huge question marks...Compare that to the lights out 1-2 of Schilling and Beckett .

Re: Yankees Pitching

The Red Sox' 1-2 guys are WAY better then the Yanks' 1-2 guys. But the Yanks' 3-4-5 guys are better then the Red Sox' 3-4-5 guys.

Randy Johnson has ALWAYS struggled against the Blue Jays. Besides that one start, he's been great this year; he'll win 20-24 games. Mike Mussina has been brilliant in every game he pitched this season. Wang is the biggest "if" in the rotation if you ask me. He's gonna need a ton of run-support to gain wins. Chacon will be great, look at how he pitched today- 7 innings, 4 hits, and 1 run. Jaret Wright is also going to need major run-support.

The thing is, the Yankees lineup CAN give that needed run-support. When the Yankees get it all together and really start hitting well, the pitchers will be fine. Then, the Yankees run-production will give the pitchers a chance to relax and gain confidence in their stuff. By the end of the season, the Yanks will be ready for the playoffs.

Re: Yankees Pitching

I got rid of Wang in my fantasy league...he hasn't looked all that great...

And geez, Randy is close to collecting social security...give him a break, he has lost a bit, but he's over 40 now...

Re: Yankees Pitching

Randy Johnson is collecting a huge paycheck from the Yankees so there is no slack to be cut for him. If you are going to take the money, then you are going to take the heat. He is over the hill and does not have consistent stuff from start to start like he used to.For some reason he thinks he is too good to have Posada catch him, so he is going to have a catcher playing when he pitches that couldn't hit his weight in Little League right now. Mussina has been solid, but incredibly, he has over 225 wins but has never won twenty games. Pavano is so gutless he doesn't even want to get back out there, but what would you expect from a man who broke up with Alyssa Milano? Wang will be better when it gets warmer, and Wright will be better when hell freezes over. But don't worry, we have A-Rod on our side, he who strikes out on high fastballs with the game on the line but hits 2 homers when the score is 12-4!

Re: Yankees Pitching

I love your description of A-Rod! That's really perfect for him this year... Did you see you today's game? The Yanks had bases loaded, two outs. The Orioles walked Jeter on four pitches.... Then went to a 3-1 count on Sheffield. I was like "What the heck?", and then I realized... they were walking batter to get to A-Rod!!! A-Rod does so miserably with bases loaded... the O's couldn't wait to get to him!

Also, in today's game Joe Torre made Stinnet catch... Which means Posada will be catching Johnson tomorrow.

Re: Yankees Pitching

The Yankee pitching staff has given up only 71 runs this season... That is the second fewest runs allowed in the majors (Detroit-69 RA).

Sorry. As legend says, Randy catches no break. He came here to be the stopper and dominate. He failed miserably against the Angels in the playoffs last year. So until he can dominate in the big game, he gets cut no slack.

Re: Yankees Pitching

And the Tigers give up 4 runs in their game against the Mariners.

So for all you Yankee-pitching-doubters, the New York Yankee pitching staff has given up fewer runs that ANY other pitching staff in the majors!

Re: Yankees Pitching

Yankee pitching has been solid lately. Farnsworth was hitting 99 a couple times last night, but even throwing that hard he gave up a single to Toby hall-who by the way is the slowest runner I have seen in current baseball. The Blue jays will be a tough test, especially when they thrwo Jared Wright against Roy Halladay.

Re: Yankees Pitching

Jaret Wright vs. Roy Holliday..... that's not even fair.

But the Yankees pitching staff has allowed fewer runs, walks, and home runs then any other pitching staff in baseball, which is good news.
