Every year the Yankees hold a fantasy camp for those among us who have longed to play ball under the instruction of some of the best coaches in the game, and at one of the greatest facilities in the league.

The Yankees fantasy camp takes place every year at their spring training facility in Tampa, FL. Legends Field is a 31 acre complex that includes a 10,000 seat ballpark. Fantasy campers will get a chance to take some at-bats and field fly balls in the same park that the Yankees play their spring training games in every year. All campers will receive the support and direction of the Yankees coaching staff, and will also have access to the team trainers.

An average day consists of five hours worth of time at the park. Campers receive group and one on one instruction from former Yankees players and current coaches. One of the bright spots of the week comes when each camper receives their own clubhouse locker; just like the ones that the real Yankees use! Each camper also receives an official Yankees uniform, along with a team photo. Even though the campers love playing on the big league field, they enjoy being treated like a professional even better. That sounds really cool. I think most MLB teams have a fantasy camp like this. Shame that it doesn't come with the chance to visit or play a game in Yankee Stadium, though. Imagine how awesome that would be! Man, I'd love to go to one of these things someday. It's just so darned expensive, though, and its hard to get time off.

By the way, has anyone ever read Vince Gennaro's book "Field of Dreamers"? It's about this guy's experiences at one of these baseball fantasy camps, and while it might not sound like it at first, it really is quite an interesting read. If you haven't read it, you might want to go check it out.

Whenever they show highlights of the camp during the regular season, it's mostly middle-aged business men having some fun. They then meet again and attend a game of the big league team.
