Cool Phil Rizzuto dies

Quote:
Former New York Yankees shortstop and renowned baseball broadcaster Phil Rizzuto died Tuesday morning, according to a report on New York radio station WFAN. He was 89.
I know he wasn't doing well but this is still a shock. He was the voice of the Yankees for years. And you could just tell he didn't have a mean bone in his body.

He was hysterical on the air. He was scared of mice, would leave early to avoid traffic, and went running for cover if there was thunder.

Of course he'll be remembered for his famous call of "Holy Cow!"

Even though he was a huge homer, I believe everybody loved te guy - even Yankee haters.

He also was a hell of a player. He won the MVP in 1950 and was supposedly the best bunter in baseball history.

Isn't he the voice of the Meatloaf hit "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights?"

-Holy Cow, he will be missed.

Re: Phil Rizzuto dies

Rizzuto is indeed the voice in the Meatloaf song. He was one of a kind and will be missed by all of baseball, not just the Yankees fans. He was once told to "grab a shoeshine box and shine shoes" by Brooklyn manager Casey Stengel at a tryout, a slight he never forgot. He was the kind of guy that seemed very genuine, may he rest in peace.

Oh man! I had no idea till I saw this heading and my jaw dropped!! This is a sad day indeed for the Yankee franchise. Best Yankees broadcaster ever...hell, best baseball announcer period. Scully can take a backseat to the Scooter. RIP oh greatest bunter of all times. You'll be missed.

Re: Phil Rizzuto dies

ESPNews was running some of his best calls today. Nice, classy tribute and still a heck of a lot of fun to watch. Scooter will be missed.

Cool Re: Phil Rizzuto dies

Like his friend Yogi Berra, Rizzuto had a quality that not enough ball players have today: HUMILITY. There wasn't a phony bone in the man's body.

I bet that you couldn't find ONE PERSON who didn't like him.
