Cool Yanks trade Proctor for Betemit

Quote:
ESPNews reports that the Yankees have traded RHP Scott Proctor to the Dodgers for 3B Wilson Betemit.
Proctor, who has a 3.81 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP, has been reviled by some Yankee fans for blowing key games.

Although his batting average is .231, Betemit boasts a .359 on base percentage and has a .474 slugging percentage. At age 27, he is still in his prime and will not be eligible for free agency until the 2011 season. Betemit is versatile in his ability to play first, second, third base, or fill the DH spot in the order.
Not sure I love this deal for the Yankees. I know Proctor hasn't been good this year but I would keep him. You can never have enough decent middle relievers.

Re: Yanks trade Proctor for Betemit

The Yanks have a weak-enough bullpen as it is, why trade away one of your only three dependable guys (Rivera, Vizcaino, and Proctor)? I really don't understand why the Yanks were desperate to send Proctor away.

But Betimit is a good bat off the bench, a switch-hitter with power, and can play first, third, or DH. He's definitely an upgrade from Miguel Cairo.

This is a move for next year if A-Rod leaves

Re: Yanks trade Proctor for Betemit

the yanks really want to bring joba to the majors soon, and they need to make room in the pen, so my guess is proctor was the odd man out in the equation, and they got a great utility guy in the process
