Cool Damon on the block

Quote:
The New York Yankees have let it be known outfielder Johnny Damon can be had, news that's been met with little enthusiasm. Damon is owed $13 million in each of the next two seasons. If he remains at or around .247, the 33-year-old Damon will have seen his batting average fall at least 30 points in successive seasons.

Boy, the Yankees need to learn something about leverage. Who is going to take a broken down Damon at 12 million a year for 2 more years?

Nobody.

Re: Damon on the block

I can see Brian Cashman doing his best used car salesman impression trying to pawn off the lemon that is Johnny Damon on some unsuspecting GM. It's not going to happen - New York will have to eat his contract. However, does this mean that the Bronx Bombers might could be interested in Torii Hunter as a replacement?

Re: Damon on the block

Seems like Boston shipped Damon out of town just in time... there's no way anyone would want to sign him as he is now, old and injured.

Re: Damon on the block

I agree that Damon has been a bust, but I think he is a good locker room guy that could get hot in the next couple of months and spark the team. I would hold onto him.

Re: Damon on the block

A team looking for outfield depth like San Diego should take Damon cause he is just a very good back-up now that's all he is.

Re: Damon on the block

I doubt he can be moved because of his hefty contract. The Yanks would need to eat the majority of it...are they willing to do it?

Hunter may not be old enough to sign with the Yankees yet. Give him a few years.

the Yankees that in the last 8 months have shipped out Sheffield for young pitchers, Big Unit for young pitchers, and held onto their prospects at the deadline? those Yankees? different direction going on, pay attention.

Cashman has to learn to try and trade guys when their value is high - not low.
