Cool Yanks heating up

The Yanks are only 7 games out of the wild card race only a game behind Minnesota, and 2 behind Seattle, and only 6 behind in the loss to Cleveland, with 2 more against Toronto, then Tampa, KC and Baltimore after that.....They need to close some ground on the Indians during that stretch.

I agree. They are playing some good baseball right now. But there is a lot of ground to cover.

Yeah, right. Guess what? They're in second place now, just 7 games back with plenty of baseball yet to play.

Stat of the day - New York is 8-2 in their last 10 games. During that same stretch, the Red Sox are just 3-7. Plenty of time and opportunity for the Yanks.

And only 6 games back in the loss column.....And Cleveland can't win a game either.

Re: Yanks heating up

i knew the Yankees werent out of it and i dont get how people can say that with a whole half of a season still to play they are counting them out of the equation, they are 6.5 behind in the wild card and only 7.5 behind the Bo Sox (which they still have to play against in about a months time) i dont see how they cant make the playoffs again...and bears you say that some teams get on streaks, well couldnt it be true that the Bo Soxs have been on a streak in the first half of the season and they are loosing it now? and who's to say that the team cant ride this streak of good form (which doesnt mean winning every game until the last game of the season) until the last game of the season?

like i said before the All Star game, some teams get a firecracker up their butt for the second half of the season, and with so many games still to play, i wouldnt count the Yankees out no way

You would get along great with my dad. He also thinks his Yankees are going to pull off a miracle, but as I have been telling him all season....They are done. They will hit again. All those great bats are not going to be quiet all season, but their pitching is awful. Mussina and Pettitte are aging pitchers and showing it. Clemens is Clemens at 45. Do I need to mention Igawa. Would he even be on the staff if it wasn't already this bad. What is the average age of their bullpen. They cannot sustain a second half run. They are overused already, and how many saves has Riviera blown already?

They are the Yankees and the 'boss' could make a few moves to help them, but I haven't seen them play well enough to put confidence into a comeback this year.

Re: Yanks heating up

ok az im not going to suggest its going to be some miracle comeback where it comes to the last game of the season, yankees are down by 1, bases are empty and...i dunno...Clemens steps up to the plate and hits a walk off homer or something in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs or something. i just think there are a lot of games left and some teams get hot after the all star game, some go cold...i just dont think the Yankees should give up on the season yet, im not going to say they will DEFINATLY catch the Sox but i think the wild card place is pretty reasonable, i mean providing they get these next 3 wins against the devil rays (which is a pretty reasonable request) they could only be 4.5 games behind the Bo Sox (if they continue to play as they have done and 3.5 behind in the wild card game.

now i know that is a lot of IF's and BUT's...but its possible and like i said there are a lot of games to go, im not giving up hope. however i do think the yankees season will begin to take shape when they meet the Red Sox at the end of August, the outcome of that game could seal the AL East (i will be at the first game at yankees stadium so they should win ..just thought i would throw that in)

I guess miracle was pretty strong.... I like your dramatic flair you put on it. Much better than I could have done..., but as I said they have not shown any consistency to have faith they can make a comeback. I think they are out of the running for wildcard too. They will have to reload this offseason.

see, i have a problem with that .... the Sox have done well for the 1st half, but i wouldnt call it just a streak that could die ...... the Sox didnt really hit to normal potential the 1st half of the season ..... it seems reasonable to believe that Ortiz and Manny will start hitting better (as they have for years) if that happens it will be even tougher on the Yankees

(btw, the Yankees lost today)

Cool Re: Yanks heating up

That was a very bad loss for the Yankees. Couldn't hold a 2-0 lead. Wang's been a dissapointment this year. He's been okay, but always seems to have a bad inning.

If you want to be considered a big time pitcher, yesterday is the kind of game you have to take the team on your shoulders and win it.

Yep... that's what the Severs, Carltons, Gibsons use to do...not really too many of those kinds anymore...just look at ERA's these days...it tell ya two things...pitcher give up the big inning...and they seldom go more than 7 IP...
