Cool 1st half Yankees review

They are 42-43, 10 games behind the Bo-Sox and 8 1/2 games behind Cleveland for the Wild Card. They are also behind Seattle, Minnesota and Oakland...and are tied with Toronto.

I'm finding it hard to make a case for the Yankees getting into the playoffs this year...Besides A-Rod, Jeter, and Posada, and with Giambi hurt, they are a punch and judy hitting team.

Plus their pen is really suspect for a team that has a million pitchers who can't throw more than 6 innings.

Anybody think the Yanks will get the Wild Card?

Re: 1st half Yankees review

Nah, at this point I'd say it'd be Detroit or Cleveland, whichever doesn't win the Central.

Oh heck, put me down for a Yankee comeback...why not...Clemens (aka the savior) is starting to pitch well, why the heck not...

Re: 1st half Yankees review

Well, the Yanks are just a bad team this year (no more excuses), so I don't think they will make the playoffs.

BUT, the Yankees have always been known for their late season runs (in August and September). Perhaps if the Tigers play like they did last September and the Indians played like they did in late September of 2005, maybe the Yanks could catch up. But I think it would actually be easier for the Yanks to catch Boston (one team) instead of Seattle, Toronto, Minnesota, Oakland, and Detroit/Cleveland (5 teams).

We'll see.... the Red Sox are definitely not perfect...

Re: 1st half Yankees review

Too much inconsistent starting pitching and no clutch hitting. Had they simply played a bit better in this last road trip they would have been maybe six or seven behind, but ten is alot. They would need for Boston to pick up where they ended the first half, losing and not hitting, and for them to win seven or eight in a row, hard to see with the way they play on the road this year.

I would like to see them come back. I love the stories baseball seasons can create, but I think they are done. The end may be near for the current Yankees team. They will make a lot of changes this off season.

Re: 1st half Yankees review

im going to go for the yankees to make a wild card place here. i mean fair enough they have done badly so far this season and been up and down quiet a lot, but when they are at their best they are arguably the best in the league.

i would say that, providing the yankees can keep this team healthy, in particular their pitches and their big hitters, they should be able to get some momentum going and providing they can play they way they play when they are winning games they should do well. i mean some teams adapt differently after the all star game, the yankees could go on a 10 game winning streak and even begin challanging the sox.

only time will tell on this one but i dont think the yankees are ready to give up on the season yet despite having a lot of work to do

Re: 1st half Yankees review

i think i rather of been hiding as a yankee fan instead of doing the summer vacations lol. The yankees have been god awful, the bullpen has been over worked all season, no bullpen pitcher has been consistent, including MO(thank god we got sanchez in to tutor to close). I think Mo is still the closer for another season. Offense is been injured prone, giambi hopefully he is gone after the year, damon has been nothing special and hopefully we can move him or abreu so melky can play every day next yr. Hughes has been impressive in his rehab, so hopefully i dont have to read post game stuff about igawa getting blown up. The yanks need to sign arod to an extension they cant afford to sign him as a free agent since the rangers pay a ridicoulous amount, now they have to get in the wild card race, and hope the red sox get the same injuries in the second half
