Yankees D Mientkiewicz Carted Off The Field

It was a bad throw to first by Jeter in the bottom of the 2nd that put Mientkiewicz in the awkward position ....... Mike Lowell was running to 1st when his thigh collided with the back of the head of Mientkiewicz

he laid face down in the dirt next to 1st base for several moments as the Yankees on the field surrounded him ........ after a few minutes it was clear he wouldnt be able to walk off the field under his own power and the Boston grounds crew went and got a medical cart to take Doug and the NY trainer off the field to the medical facilities

to the credit of the Boston fans they gave the Yankee 1st baseman a standing ovation as he left the field out of respect and joy that he seemed to be ok

Well, now they can go look for a better 1st baseman, right?

Seriously... who do they replace him with? Have they got anyone in the minors worth a hill of beans?

Cool Re: Yankees D Mientkiewicz Carted Off The Field

Josh Phelps will play first. He's a pretty good hitter.

It was definitely an accident and the Sox Fans did what they should have done when someone is serioiusly injured. The Yankees fans would have done the same thing if roles were reversed.

No matter how bitter the rivalry can get, no fan, except for extreme idiots wants to see anyone get hurt.

Minkewicz is going on the DL, with a mild concussion, a fractured wrists, a bruised neck.....

That's a scary hit to take, anything to the back of the head is scary.

Phelps is alright but I'm sure the Yanks will be on the lookout for a permanent first baseman.

Man, Lowell had a vendetta against the Yanks yesterday. He SO wanted a brawl. He was a one-man wrecking crew on the basepaths. Jeez....

I think I was the sole Mientkiewicz fan in the world this year, and I'm gonna sorely miss his defense at first base.

Maybe Shelley Duncan will finally be called up.

Will you miss his poor offense at the plate, though?

I think he misses you as well...

His defense is good, the man though left his bat back in 2003.

I'm a huge fan of defense... Eric Chavez, Omar Vizquel, and Doug Mientkiewicz are my kind of players.

With Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Hideki Matsui, Bobby Abreu, Jorge Posada, and Robby Cano in the lineup... who cares about your #9 hitter?

If you counted all the potential runs Mientkiewicz saved with his glove as RBIs, he'd lead the team in that category.

Mientkiewicz or Phelps won't make the difference whether the team makes the playoffs.

Does anybody know if Andy Phillips is in the minors? He couldn't hit, but was a pretty good fielder.

Re: Yankees D Mientkiewicz Carted Off The Field

Yeah, Phillips is in AAA, and has had a very good season so far. I wouldn't mind having Andy back on this team, but for now, Phelps is good enough for me.
