Cool Yanks-Red Sox Bean Brawl

5 guys got hit with pitches last night and Scott Proctor came dangerously close to hitting Kevin Youkalis in the head. The benches emptied. Proctor says he didn't do it on purpose.

Quote:
"If I was going to hit a guy I would do it on the first pitch," said Proctor, who was suspended for four games for throwing behind Seattle's Yuniesky Bentancourt on May 6. "At 2-2, why waste four pitches. At 2-2, I am not trying to drill the guy."
YANKS MASTER FIESTY FENWAY By GEORGE KING - New York Yankees

At minimum, todays game at 3:55 should be fun to watch! Too bad Don Zimmer and Pedro are gone.

Yeah, every time tempers flare in Fenway, I miss Pedro. He was such a great bad guy.

Fun game coming up this afternoon (well, fun for the fans at least).

Do you notice that every brawl/benches clearing/ beaning that takes place in Red Sox v. Yankees games, takes place in Fenway (2003 ALCS Game 3, Arod v. Varitek, last night). The Red Sox are to cowardly to start something in New York.

They of course should settle things in WWE fashion, in a battle royal of sort on pay per view...Wrestlemania anyone?

Re: Yanks-Red Sox Bean Brawl

Although Joe Torre and Jorge Posado claimed it was unintentional, I would not expect Scott Proctor to slip that many pitches. His control is usually decent, although he can give some wild pitches from time to time.

Re: Yanks-Red Sox Bean Brawl

I don't buy it either...the ball was thrown at what, 95-96-7 mph at the guys head? That's called a message pitch.

Proctor's a bum for throwing it at his head though, that's uncalled for.

But there hasn't been any brawling yet Pundit...go watch an NHL game if you can find one .

Re: Yanks-Red Sox Bean Brawl

Guys, it was Scott Proctor pitching... not Mariano Rivera.

In his last appearance (Sunday), Proctor walked the bases loaded, walked in the tying run and walked in the winning run against the Angels. It could very well have been that Proctor wanted to hit Youkillis, but over-threw the ball (causing it to go up and in).

The league has decided NOT to fine or suspend Proctor.

Obviously, the Red Sox are ticked (with good reason).

Re: Yanks-Red Sox Bean Brawl

The Red Sox have been able to hit Yankees at will for the last five years. Now someone steps up and says that's enough of that and they lose it. I don't think Proctor intentionally threw at Youkalis's head, but I do believe he wanted to come up and in. He had 2 strikes on him. If you are going to hit a guy to send a message, you don't get two strikes on him and then decide it's time.

I agree, it would have probably been the first pitch.

Also, Youkilis doesn't come across as a mean character.
