Todd Helton to Yankees?

Could Todd Helton be on his way to New York to play for the Yankees?

Probably not, according to the Rocky Mountain News: "Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd both found reports of a possible trade of Rockies first baseman Todd Helton and left-handed closer Brian Fuentes to the Yankees 'amusing.'"

Still, Yankees fans, what do you think about these rumors? Would you like to see Helton playing in New York?

Re: Todd Helton to Yankees?

I think they need to be looking for some pitching, not offense.

Helton is the answer for the struggling pitching staff

Well, Fuentes is rumored to be coming over in the deal too, so he'd definitely help that pen. Again, though, doesn't look like it's gonna happen.

They would want too much for Fuentes IMO, and the Yanks have said they are not giving up any of their young studs.

First Boston, then the Yanks?

Haha, I'll take this rumor with a grain of salt.

Re: Todd Helton to Yankees?

It makes too much sense for Cashman to do. Helton could allow them to jettison Mentciewicz ( I don't even care how is name is spelled) and Phelps. Disgustingly putrid Luis Vizcaino could then be let go and Fuentes could pitch the eighth inning to set up Mariano. As long as you don't give up Hughes, who cares what they give back to Colorado. They have ONE stud pitcher thats a kid, and that's Hughes.

Helton is hitting well again...should have made a play for him when he was in a slump over the last couple of years....that aside, how well can Helton hit away from Coors Field?

Re: Todd Helton to Yankees?

Better than .230 which is what Meintkiewicz is batting. Fuentes would be as important as Helton in this deal.

He never had a bat to start with.

His field was his marquee area.

Cool Re: Todd Helton to Yankees?

Why would Colorado trade Fuentes? He's a top line closer.

Re: Todd Helton to Yankees?

Would have to check to see when his contract is up and he's a free agent. Why does a last place team ever get rid of good players? To save money and dump salaries. Helton is owed some big bucks and Fuentes must make decent money for a reliever. Chump change to the Yankees but a lot to a team like Colorado.

Yep, legend's got it 100% right. The Rockies aren't going to be winning much this year, so they need to worry foremost about remaining financially solvent. If their contracts are due up soon, or they may have to pay these guys performance bonuses, then they'll look to jettison their contracts and replace them with lesser, less expensive players. Win as much as you can while staying on a budget... that seems to be the philosophy of all but a select few MLB teams these days.
